Classic editor gone
-
I want the classic editor back. Today I couldn’t single space my text without going into the new HTML format, and getting a message saying ‘block contains unexpected or invalid content’ and then deleting my text so that I can’t recover it! This isn’t progress. Please make the classic editor available again.

Hi there, There is a change in navigation being rolled out on WordPress.com. You can read about this here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/unified-navigation/ and you can leave feedback for Staff in that same thread.
If your account has been switched to the unified navigation and you formerly accessed the Classic Editor through WP Admin, you’ll need to turn on the Show advanced dashboard pages in your Account Settings> Interface Settings> Dashboard Appearance https://wordpress.com/me/account Make sure to click the “Save Interface Settings” button towards the bottom, below the thumbnails of the dashboard color schemes.

While the Classic Editor is currently available, in the long run you’ll want to give the full Block Editor or the Classic Block a workout as Staff have advised that the WordPress core development team do plan to phase this editor out in the future. The more you use it, the easier it will become. WordPress.com also published a guide specifically for writers and bloggers that you can find here https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/
Hope that helps, but post back here if you have any other questions on this.

How right you are. Hi, and thank you! The Classic Editor is still available to all WordPress.com users, and it’s still free. Here’s the Classic Editor support page, and the recently revised How to Access the Classic Editor section of that support page.

@rossonl @musicdoc1 changes have continuously happened here on the WordPress.com platform over the last 12 years. We’ve managed to get through it all and we’re still blogging here.
@musicdoc1 thanks for adding those links, but I understood that @rossonl was already using the Classic Editor but discovered it had “disappeared” with the change in navigation. @rossonl if that was not the case, please let us know whether you need more help on that point.Regarding your lost text, did you have a look in the Revisions section of your Post Editor? https://wordpress.com/support/editors/page-post-revisions/
Again, if you have more questions, please post back to this forum thread.

@rossoni said, “I want the classic editor back,” and “Please make the classic editor available again.” I didn’t think that was ambiguous. Both the explanation and illustration that you provided, and the How to Access the Classic Editor section of Classic Editor support page that I provided include the important information about the Dashboard Appearance option at Account Settings, but the latter provides more info specific to the Classic Editor, including the fact that it is necessary to hover over and select Classic Editor to open that editor any chosen page or post at All Pages or at All Posts, with a corresponding illustration. We’ve managed to get through it all and we’re still blogging here.
Many of us have managed to get through it all by relentlessly undoing, confounding, and working around a barrage of needless “improvements” WP.com repeatedly foists upon us. I would prefer WP-Admin essentially as it was 10 years ago. It’s still possible to have maybe 75% of that intact, with the help of script, trap dodging, and workarounds, but WP.com wants to destroy every bit of it.

I can now access Classic Editor thanks to your instructions. But the wider point is important: that Classic Editor remains as an option and never goes away. I agree with @musicdoc1 — the “improvements” WP has been rolling out have been anything but.
