Classic Editor Link

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.

    Give us the link in the beep beep boop editor back which leads to the classic editor please. I can’t stand the new one and I just want to use WordPress as smooth as possible. oing to all posts to edit a post is complicated and takes too long, especially on older posts when you’re already seeing the post on the site. A small link which leads to the classic editor would not distract nor disturb the new editor in any way but would satisfy everyone. So please give us the link back. It’s not much work for you and would save a lot of users a lot of time and effort, since I know that the new editor isn’t all that popular amongst my friends.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

    There aren’t any plans to put a link to the classic editor back in the new editor. Are there specific things that don’t work well for you in that new editor? I’d be happy to pass along that feedback to our team.

    Plans can be changed and they should if they lead up a blind alley. In this case your plans should be changed w/o delay. What are the arguments against re-implementing the link anyway?

    It would be more easy if I’d tell you what works well w/ the new editor. That would be a way shorter list.

    -The editing field is tiny.
    -It leads away from the dashboard which is a direct violation of the principle of consistency; an integral part of programming.
    -Fields for time and date (for scheduling articles) are too small.
    -The left side is overloaded, confusing and opening up the categories costs time, esp. when looking for a certain option when the category is unknown/uncclear.
    -The list of categories sucks: it is not present until marking the name field and after it lacks to show parent categories.
    -There also is no “most used” list of categoiries.
    -The small images in the classic editor in front of each line in the “Publish” category made things incredibly easy to find. The new editor lacks these. Instead it has two oversized icons for date and daytime.
    -WTF is a “featured image” and why would I want to set one out of a sudden?
    -Essentials (like visibility) are split up using a cluttered unnecessary “advanced” category.

    Do you really want me to go on? Please reconsider your plans! There is absolutely no harm in having a link to the classic editor inside the new one. I don’t even ask for an option to preset which editor should be used. I do realize that would be a lot of work but a simple link is the work of minutes. Especially since it was implemented in the first place.

    Thanks for that feedback! If you don’t mind, I’d like to get more details about a couple of the things you mentioned, to make sure I understand:

    -The editing field is tiny.
    -Fields for time and date (for scheduling articles) are too small.

    Could you make a screenshot of what you see in the new editor? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.

    I want to get a better sense of what you’re seeing there, and figure out if it’s due to a bug in how those fields are being sized on your screen.

    -The left side is overloaded, confusing and opening up the categories costs time, esp. when looking for a certain option when the category is unknown/uncclear.

    After you open or close one of the sections in that left sidebar, it will stay open/closed (the way you left it) the next time you visit the editor. Is that working for you? If not, I can investigate why those settings aren’t sticking for you.

    -WTF is a “featured image” and why would I want to set one out of a sudden?

    Many themes use Featured Images as part of the site’s design, but you can also use featured images on themes that don’t use them (like your Quintus theme) to specify what image will be featured in the WordPress.com Reader.

    If you have more feedback, please do go on! Our team is always trying to make improvements to these features, and although it isn’t feasible to implement every suggestion, we do consider the feedback we’ve gathered while we work on it.

    For the first time in 3 years of being online, i can’t edit today.
    Im stuck, unable to progress my blog due to the new editor.

    Im using Sarafi, and have been using the old editor. Now forced to switch to the new editor, on Oxygen theme (wordpress.com), i can’t chose my parent page on the left hand side. When i’ve edited the page, all navigation is lost when i click publish, as the parent page field doesn’t have a proper drop down box to choose the right menu. Now it is either blank, or just suggests a random 20 or so pages as a parent (none of which is the right one). Please help.

    I have uploaded a screen grab (with added notes) to show you the two problems I’m having. (The Parent page navigation and the colour editor not working)

    Hi paulveverka, please start a new forum thread and include the details you mentioned here. That way we won’t lose track of your issue and can help you troubleshoot it separately. Thanks!

    I would also like the classic editor link. I absolutely HATE the new editor. It f*cked up all my carefully designed tables and even editing in HTML the table information is still stripped. This is NOT OKAY.
    I can’t add empty paragraphs, I can’t add line breaks. It’s awful. I want to go back to the old editor that was actually useful and more flexible.

    As much as I appreciate your efforts rachel, but my time is too precious to work as a beta tester for your new editor. Atm I’m very busy so I can’t really provide you with a full and detailed list of issues. I also don’t want to use the new editor. It was dead from the beginning for me, since we (the ne editor and I) started on the wrong foot. It appears to “please the masses” wish for modern design rather than being practical (it’s clutteres, text is big and this bloats everything). The day you stop supporting the classic editor will be the day I leave WordPress. As much as it would hurt, I just can’t stand it. And your refusal of answering the question as to why no link will be implemented again let’s me fear that this time is not so far away. So please answer this question: Should I start looking for another blog hosting provider?
    The problem w/ the tiny editor field and fields for date and time is gone anyway. I don’t know why. I had this on two devices w/ several browsers and now it seems to be solved. That’s a big problem gone but I still don’t like it. My other criticism persists.
    BTW: Why did you built a new editor anyway? The old one was pretty much perfect. At least I had no issues at all.
    I’m sure you won’t believe me now that t’s too late but it’s true: I considered to go premium as soon as I had finished my studies (which is soon, thats why I have few time spare). Then the new editor came and I thought it’ll be fine, the link to the classic one is there. The team just likes options. Then the link was gone and so were my intentions to throw my money at you.

    Thank you for the support latierravizslas! I’d like to see more people to second my request.

    A small link from the new editor to the working one wouldn’t kill anyone. It would take a couple of minutes to implement. And it would save a lot of users a lot of trouble.

    I would not use the new editor if my life depended on it (yes, I did give it a fair try, but um, no, sooo not working, confusing, limited and simply put, not anywhere near the functionality of the old one). Thus, since wordpress changed the drop down menu link to the new editor, I have to manually find the working one, every time.

    I’ve been using WordPress for a number of years, but I am beginning to reconsider.

    @rachelmcr – Now that the original, 2-month old thread is closed and buried https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/32?replies=943#post-2338964 are Staff updating @lizthefair’s post about the BBB editor changes? And, if not that post, please create a BBB update post stickied at the top of the forums.

    @salieric – It’s pretty much done and over about adding the link back in the New BBB Editor (not going to happen) and the best thing you can do is bookmark your site’s WPAdmin Dashboard>Posts>Add New which for your above site would be https://twovoz.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

    If you want a more comprehensive solution, see the suggestions at the bottom of timethief’s post http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

    @baranara – bookmark this https://prematurbloggen.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

    I have my site’s direct link in my browser’s bookmarks bar so that I don’t have to hunt for it every time.

    @salieric:

    Our team is currently focused on building and improving the newer dashboard you see at https://wordpress.com/ (including the new editor). That said, there are currently no plans to remove WP Admin and the editor there, so you’re welcome to continue using that dashboard if you prefer it.

    @latierravizslas:

    I absolutely HATE the new editor. It f*cked up all my carefully designed tables and even editing in HTML the table information is still stripped. This is NOT OKAY.

    I see you started a new thread about those issues here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-turn-off-the-awful-new-editing-interface-and-go-back-to-the-old-one

    We’ll follow up in that thread to address the issues you mentioned with the new editor.

    @justjennifer:

    Thanks for the reminder about lizthefair’s post — I’m checking with the team now to see if there are updates to add to that at this point. It may not be feasible for us to provide continual updates about the editor but I’ll see what we can do. :)

    I’m closing this thread, but if anyone else is running into problems with the new editor or has constructive feedback for our team, please start a new forum thread with your concerns or feedback. Thanks!
