Classic Editor No Longer Available
-
Why not? My site (nearly 500 pages) is dependent on the Classic Editor for its consistency of textual formatting. The newer WordPress Editor cannot duplicate the functionality of the Classic Editor’s textual color palette (a problem I tried to address here a year or two ago and was told to simply continue using Classic Editor) so I am now unable to maintain the textual formatting upon which my entire site is dependent. Why can I no longer access the Classic Editor?

You can access the Classic Editor, do this:

Hi
You can still use the Classic Editor use the link below to learn how
https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/
The classic editor is being retired in this document WordPress.com Classic Editor Deprecation FAQs gives information about the changes to the editors

Unified Navigation is also useful information to know.

Thank you for the replies dzonson & ryrhino00 . Can either of you tell me why the reply from dianewordsworth was deleted?

Next question for dzonson and ryrhino00. I have followed the instructions in the suggested links (they are essentially identical) but I do not receive the Classic Editor option when I do. I have attempted to attached a couple of screen shots to this Reply showing that I have enabled the Dashboard Appearance toggle but when I hover over any of my pages, there is no Classic Editor option available. Since I also see no option to attach any images to this Reply, I cannot even show you that following the above instructions avails no improvement to my problem. Please assist again if you can.

Also, rhrhino00, while your additional links were informative, none of them — including the classic block reference — offers a solution to the textual formatting problem I described in the OP above. Textual formatting is critical to the unity of presentation across my many pages and the classic block does not provide the color palette I need (at least not on my device) to preserve that formatting unity. But thank you for offering the additional information.

To share a screenshot please follow the directions here

I have also asked for a staff member to look at your first post, so they can help you with textual formatting and your other questions since I do not know the answer.

If you follow the instructions that @ryrhino00 shared in their previous reply you’ll be able to access the Classic editor. Here they are:
https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/
Also, I want to point out that here on WordPress.com we follow the direction where the WordPress open-source project is moving towards. The Block editor is their first step in modernizing WordPress and you can read more here:
https://developer.wordpress.org/block-editor/handbook/faq/
Since the development of the WordPress software is moving in this direction, when new versions of the software are released, we update the software here at WordPress.com.
We also understand that people still use the Classic Editor, which is why it’s still available here (it’s not in the WordPress software). The navigation unification we’re working on now moved where you access it. But, eventually, newer versions of WordPress won’t be compatible with the legacy Classic Editor and that’s why we’re encouraging people to try the new Block editor which has a “Classic block” that has almost the same functionality as the Classic Editor.

Thank you, fstat, for your reply. I have already read all the propaganda about WP’s Block Editor but, sadly, WP has no interest in reading (or at least responding to) any of my (or dozens of similar) complaints about the absence of a robust text color palette in Block Editor. And no, as I wrote on my previous post above, following ryrhino00’s instructions did not provide me access to the Classic Editor — at least not that day. The next day, however, just for kicks, I ran through the process again and it worked. But since the Classic Editor will soon become unavailable anyway, it was just a temporary bandaid which will soon fall off and become useless.
The primary problem still remains. WP isn’t interested in responding to my (and others’) requests for a simple migration of Classic Editor’s robust text color palette into Blocks. C’est la vie. This will force me to migrate my entire Web site (several hundred pages and nearly ten years worth of intensive research and editing) onto another provider’s servers (assuming I can find one with a robust text color palette), then eventually shutting down here on WP. That doesn’t seem to bother WP in the least so it won’t serve any purpose for me to light my hair on fire and flame WP on every Forum thread. WP simply doesn’t care about solving this problem so I won’t care about leaving WP when I find a suitable alternative.
I thank you again for responding, fstat, and hope you have a nice day.
