‘classic editor’ not working right

  • Unknown's avatar

classic editor locks up when adding some text and a link to an already published post, and the menues are gone, so no way to easily recover from that. also ‘new editor’ just makes a blank screen, also with no way out. the ‘enable third party cookies’ trick to work around this performance failure smacks of weak programming. and there are now more java scripts than ever, along with stats collecting trackers and other such things that are not adding any value me.

this is firefox 70.0.1 on ubuntu ver 18. it’s not quite so bad on windows 7. sometimes with windows 7 switching to the new editor, then back to the old editor unfreezes the screen, but only if the menues appear so they can be accessed.

haven’t tried making a new post, copying all my old text to the new post and seeing if it will work, on the assumption that there is something embedded in the old post that causes this performance failure. might point to a revisions problem, but what an odd work-around that would be.

so if i use jetpack and host my own wordpress site, will these problems go away or is this just ‘the current state of the art’, now that google is onboard?

  • Hi there!

I’ve tried to replicate the issue you’re mentioning on Firefox but I was not able to.
Would you be able to send us a screenshot or a screencast of what happens on your end? You can add it to your media library and we’ll check it from there – just let us know.
Also, it would be interesting to know more details about your browser, could you link the results from https://www.whatismybrowser.com/ in your reply? Thanks!
