classic editor now doesn’t work?
-
I’ve been posting for many years at ‘new2view.wordpress.com’ but now it has become difficult and complicated, why is that? I’ve most often simply used ms wordpad to write posts, then copy an past them into my blog account. That worked well for many years but now is has become very problematic, formatting issues, disappearing after posting, etc etc. Even though I use the ‘so-called classic editor’ WHY?
Site: https://new2view.wordpress.com.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: Yes -
Hi,
Have you been recently using the classic editor, or the Classic Block in the Gutenberg editor? If the latter, then it’s not surprising at all that you’ve encountered lots of issues, especially if you’ve been using the “classic editor,” or the WP-Admin editor, for years.

@new2view, for the best experience, we strongly recommend creating your posts directly on WordPress.com. ANy external word processor can add additional HTML to your text, which can cause issues when publishing your post.
Have a look at this article. It’s about copy-pasting from Microsoft Word, but can help with your issue as well:

sorry but your preference is NOT my preference. Again tonight I wrote a post on in .rtf and tried, IN VAIN to simply post it on my blog, but as usual I ran into several obstacles, so-called blocks, unable to find the ‘sticky’ setting, unable to specify the script, unable to properly setup the heading, etc etc etc I think I’m done with wordpress its just gotten to damn tricky to use and I don’t have the patience to learn it all…

You write your text in RTF as a website uses HTML. Those formats are incompatible to eachother. Even when you write a text in MS Word and save it as html, you get verry sloppy HTML with a lot of unnecessary code. That’s why you get the advice to write your text directly in wordpress.com.
A simple search on the internet will tell you you’ll encounter the same problem with other blogplatforms. -
I appreciate your sentiments, but still prefer to write posts in ms wordpad before pasting in wordpress. It still works but requires some adjustments, so I’ll keep doing that. thanks for reply.

Hi there, I hesitated to post because it looks like you have a specific workflow that you are comfortable with.
When you use WordPad and then copy and paste from it to the Classic Editor (not the Classic Block), it tries to bring over the formatting you used in WordPad. As a general rule, this formatting isn’t always compatible with the Editor here.
There is a button in the Classic Editor toolbar’s second row of buttons that you can click before pasting your post content into the Editor. See the illustration here: https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#second-row-of-editing-buttons It’s #4 in that screenshot. This will paste your post content, but cleanly, without the extra WordPad formatting that can cause issues.
Give that a try and see if it works better for you.

That sounds good, I’ll try it next time I post. Meanwhile can you tell me how to change the heading or whatever its called under the homepage picture, namely “about and ‘fmep etc I just spent many minutes going through settings but no luck as usual for me to find the right menu item

Hello again, Do you mean your site’s navigation menu? What is it you want to do with it?
Andrea is a very old theme that was retired a few years back. At that time when you published a new page, it would automatically be added to that menu, unless you had created something called a Custom Menu.
If you opened the Customizer’s Menu section and didn’t see anything listed there, then your menu is being updated automatically when you publish a new page. In that case in order to change the page order, you’d need to adjust the order of each of your pages in Page Attributes https://wordpress.com/support/pages/page-options/#page-order
To be honest, it’s quicker to do this in the Customizer’s Menu section by creating a Custom Menu to change what appears in your navigation menu. To do that, you can follow this guide https://wordpress.com/support/menus/ You’ll also have the option of automatically adding any new published page to that Custom menu.
Have a look at those guides and post back here if you have questions.
