Classic Editor option now totally gone from WP/admin??
-
Okay, so, words cannot express how much I despite the Block Editor concept, but at least I have had the option of still using the Classic Editor via the “admin” workaround (choosing All Posts and then the small dropdown menu offering Add New and then a dropdown with Classic Editor as an option.)
However, I have just logged in and discovered that even in WP/admin, that element appears to be gone. I have tried it in both Firefox and Edge, just to make sure it isn’t a browser-specific change.
Is there ANY WAY to access the Classic Editor anymore?
On a related note, I was very frustrated recently because even in the Classic Editor, there has been a bug whereby in Firefox 85 and higher, the toolbars were not fixed/frozen for scrolling as they used to be. So I had to switched to Edge (which I dislike) just to be able to work on my three WordPress.com blogs. I figured okay, maybe it is what it is. But to lose the Classic Editor entirely…??
Please tell me that there is still SOME way to access the Classic Editor? I’m literally begging here, lol
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry about the typo, obviously I meant “despise”, not ‘despite.’
No way to edit a post once submitted here, I guess.

Hi
I’m on premium plan.
If I on “My site” go down to WP Admin (left column),
then, when I hover over a page I get the options :
Edit I Classic Editor I Quick Edit I Copy I Trash I View.Is this not the case on your end?
-
Not anymore, as of today. I am already in WP admin (I actually log in that way from a bookmark), but the entire format of the “posts” section has changed. No hovering, no choices as there used to be.
I don’t know if this is a rolling changeover or what, but now the only lefthand column choices in WP Admin are:
My Home, Stats, Upgrades, Posts, Media, Pages, Comments, Feedback, Jetpack, Appearance, Plugins, Users, Tools, Settings, Add New Site
If I click on Posts and then All Posts, the page that displays is not the same format/style as it was a few days ago, and hovering over a post title does nothing. There is horizontal line of three dots at the far right of reach post, which is a Toggle Menu command. The dropdown menu includes only Edit, View, Stats, Comment, Share, Copy Post, Copy Link, and Trash. If you choose Edit, it takes you to the dreaded Block Editor with no further options.
I may have to migrate at least two of my sites over to WordPress.org in order to have the Classic Editor plugin available. I have a Premium plan at the moment, but to upgrade to Business here (in order to get that plugin) is waaay too expensive for me.
-
Actually, I misspoke: I actually am on the Personal Plan, which is the lowest price tier that has no ads. However…. on the plan comparison page, it says nothing about the Classic Editor being available on the Premium Plan, so I don’t know whether (if I were to upgrade) that would make any difference to how the Editor operates.
The Premium plan specs do not include the availability of any plug-ins (if that is what has happened with the Classic Editor here.)

I do not use posts.
But – when in WP Admin, click on Post ( you come to Post’s area).
Right where POSTs >under Add new –
there’s a drop down menu where you choose block or classic editor. Not there with you?
-
Nope, not anymore. It was there, as recently as two days ago. But as of today, the entire “posts” interface has changed.
-
The “Posts> Add new (>drop down) is at the top of Post area (on my plan.)
I am sorry I’m not able to assist you further – probably staff member can
give you further assistance.I just moved back to WP.com from WP.org.
With hosting, domain and security (and security you’ll need!)
you will get not far from the business plan price. However, I do believe a staff member here can advise you further regarding
locating the classic editor. -
Thanks for your input. I just checked the other blog that I have here and it is still displaying the same format as you are seeing (Classic Editor option still there.) So it may be that WP.com is phasing out the Classic Editor in stages rather than having a sweeping change site-wide?
If so, it means that it’s only a matter of time before all users here who are below the Business Plan level will lose access to the Classic Editor. :-(
Business Plan level here is $25/month which is $300/yr plus the cost of a custom domain. Domain + webhosting even at full price for WP.org (for my uses, as I don’t need any Business features whatsoever) would be 1/3 of that.
But you are correct, I hope a staff member responds before I jump ship entirely, lol

Hi there folks, I see that someone has flagged this thread for Staff attention and they will reply when they look in on this thread. Meanwhile, please note the sticky at the top of our community forums which details the changes underway to WordPress.com site navigation. https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/unified-navigation/
However, to the best of my knowledge, this doesn’t affect access to the Classic Editor in WP Admin https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/ so let’s be patient for Staff to reply here. Thanks.
Also, for anyone who has an upgrade plan on their WordPress.com website, you also have access to direct support via email and/or LiveChat when you post to the contact form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

OMG, Jennifer, thank you SO MUCH for pointing me to the page that actually shows what happened when the new interface was applied! Enabling the “advanced WP Admin” features” is what brought the access back.
That popup actually shows images of what the layout looks like with the option Disabled (which is what it defaulted to, with yesterday’s rollout) and Enabled (which brought the actual WP Admin functionality back). It’s kind of counterintuitive to be calling the “old/classic” interface an “advanced” functionality, but at this point I’m just so glad to be able to get the Classic Editor back, they can describe it any way they want, LOL
A suggestion, though: IMHO it would help if somewhere there was a banner (even temporarily) that says “Need access to the Classic Editor? Enable this new feature” or something like that. I think it would save a deal of angst and panic amongst people like moi. :-)
Thank you again, and stay safe and well!
