Classic Editor: scroll bar for text missing
-
There used to be a scroll bar for the text portion of the Classic Editor.
It is now missing (some time within the past few days).
My long posts require me to scroll back up to the top for any formatting, which is highly inconvenient and time-consuming.
Could someone please tweak the code and restore the scroll bar?
Thank you in advance for your help.

The same is true for the text blocks for Pages.
I have hundreds of entries on my Pages. To have to highlight a new sub-head, by going back to the top is a headache.
Again, thank you in advance for your help.

Hi there, I see that your thread has been flagged for Staff attention and assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.
Staff, I can also confirm this behavior, no scroll bar appears in the Classic Editor, in more recent themes using both FF and Brave latest versions, Win10Pro PC.

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Is there a post in particular where you’re facing a problem please? The reason why I ask is because when I take a look I do see a scroll bar present.
Are you also able to tell us the browser that is in use please?
Lastly, it’s worth noting that the theme in use is retired and no longer supported: https://wordpress.com/theme/tarski
Many thanks in advance.

Great catch, @justjennifer!
That has been reported and hopefully will be worked on soon.

Thank you very much, @justjennifer, for investigating this issue.
I am also most grateful to Darnell Dibbles for logging this issue. Thank you!
Looking forward to hearing more soon.

It’s been gone for awhile on my blog, too.
I also use Firefox.
My “work around” is to click on “Screen Options,” then click on “Enable full-height editor and distraction-free functionality.” It’s not perfect but at least the toolbar is viewable on long posts.

I should have said to unclick on “Enable full-height editor and distraction-free functionality.” It brings back the blog post’s scroll bar.

This issue is still open as our developers are working on a fix. We’ll update you all in this thread when it’s fixed.

Update: WordPress has given me the new post editor with the option for the Classic Editor, which I have been using for the past couple of days.
I do miss the Quick Edit option to add tags and categories to a post on the list of Posts, so maybe that could be considered as another update for the future?
For my part, my query is closed, but perhaps keep it open for dandelionsalad, whose comment is above mine. Thanks in advance.

Hi @churchmouse,
Thanks for sharing that feedback. You can still reach the quick edit feature by navigating to https://wordpress.com/me/account and activate the option called “Dashboard appearance” as illustrated in this screenshot.
We also cover this in more detail on this support guide page if you’re interested: https://wordpress.com/support/account-settings/#dashboard-appearance.
Thanks,

Hi folks. I’m not finding either the scrollbar missing as reported by the OP, @churchmouse, or the toolbar disappearing while scrolling, when using FF, as reported by @justjennifer. Have these issues been fixed or resolved?
-
Hi Musicdoc1. Yes, the problem still exists for me when using the Classic Editor on Firefox.

Hi @dandelionsalad! Interesting. I haven’t encountered either issue at all this year or at any time that I recall. Should have specified that I’m using the Classic Editor also. My specs:
Windows 7, desktop
FF browser, 87.0 (latest)
Classic Editor, “advanced” dashboard appearance enabled or not -
I’m using Win 10.
Have you clicked or unclicked on “Enable full-height editor and distraction-free functionality” under “Screen Options” in the new post or editing an older post?
I’m asking because it does make a difference on whether you can see the editing toolbar when writing a blog post.
The problem still exists for me.
