Classic view gone, many defects and issues

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi !

Since yesterday I cannot use the classic interface anymore. I encounter many issues with the new interface that impact my efficiency and productivity:
    * I cannot justify a whole text. Previously I was able to use keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+A and CTRL+ALT+U) to justify everything in one shot. Now I have to select bloc one by one. This is time consuming and inefficient
    * I cannot justify text when it is in a list. Strangely the “Justify” icon disappears when I add a list
    * Adding an image is a nightmare. Previously it was easy to add an image or create a gallery (one button click, then select the images with the search bar directly accessible). Now I have to create a new block, select add image, click a button to select Image gallery or to browse a folder, then click on the magnifying glass to search for image…). This is very time consuming and frustrating
    * Changing styles (titles / paragraph….) is more complicated as there is one in between menu to access on

I know this interface is here for click-click people who like fancy icons and styles but what about those who want only productivity ? How can I use the old interface ? Do I need to activate an option ?

    Thanks,

    Regards,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @arnaudkubacki,

After Calypso and WP-Admin have unified navigation, Classic Editor is not visible, but it is not gone.
Here is the way to turn on the Classic Editor back:
    1) go to https://wordpress.com/me/account
    2) turn on the option for “Show advanced dashboard pages” and click Save Interface Settings.
Now Classic Editor shall be available. More detailed info can be found here: https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/.
Please let us know if that is not what you are looking for?

    Thank you !

This is much better now, I hope the classic editor will remain as is until we fix all the issues in the new one.

EDITING has suddenly become AN UTTER MESS and several facilites I regularly use – especially scheduling – have disappeared without any warning whatsoever – not good management !

(EG. when copy-pasting from Facebook I need to reformat by deleting its hidden coding)

PLEASE REINSTATE CLASSIC as a matter of urgency as I just don’t have time to waste on this .

    Hi @richardjbarker,

    thank you for posting.

several facilites I regularly use – especially scheduling – have disappeared

Scheduling is still available in every post/page in both Block editor and Classic Editor. Please give more details to see where the problem is?

PLEASE REINSTATE CLASSIC as a matter of urgency

Classic editor is also still available, but as long as it is not recommended to use, its hidden by default now. There are two options to use it:
    1) classic editor box is available in Block Editor as a separate block.
    2) If you do not want to use the classic editor box, You can still turn on “Show advanced dashboard pages” as described in my message above and then classic editor will be available for editing and also for creating new posts/pages (press a little triangle besides the Add New button).

    Does that help?

Hi Maksimurasov – Indeed it does and appreciate your advice, but why weren’t legacy system users informed in advance? (My latest WP Digest is dated late Jan 2021 – Having managed IT help desk and coordinated user liaison in UK-EU govt’ dept I’m well aware of pitfalls of customer care and where techies need reminding of user’s perspective and to keep them well-appraised.)

I was aware of block-classic difference but whilst I was in zoom meeting I needed to re-blog and schedule another’s posting for this morning. Suddenly, however, I was confronted by a completely different admin screen, akin to my phone app, so found it very distracting during a meeting.

Moreover, I was most unhappy that it would seriously affect my full-blogging day (ie now) in getting items published. Hence I had to use valuable time to log the issue and thus unable to check anyone else’s remarks.

Therefore, I was VERY pleased to see your resolution enabling me to get working as normal today – two posts published. Have also checked that I can share and schedule from WP site as usual.

So richards-watch.org is up and running properly. Thanks again.

    Dear Richard,

Am glad to hear that your blog is back on track!
And thank you for your valuable time to share the problems you encounter.

I do agree that some pre-advice notice had to be made before implementing such change, indeed many users do not have time to search where are the old buttons and options have gone.

Therefore for other users I would just shortly echo the situation for clarity:
    Date: Mar 10, 2021.
Admin dashboard suddenly changed and there is no more Classic Editor?
The reason below is that recently WP-Admin (advanced dashboard) and Calypso sidebars have been joined to have one, under so called Unified Navigation process. By default Calypso functions are active, therefore to be able to use WP-Admin functions such as Classic Editor, please turn on turn on WP-Admin as described there: https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/ in two clicks.
If You encounter a bug, please create a separate post to focus the staff attention.

    Thank You!
