Cleaning up Blogger Import to WordPress

I have successfully imported my Blogger archives to WordPress.com. Several really frustrating problems have appeared with the WordPress WYSIWYG editor when I try to clean up some of the formatting to fit the (unchangable without fee for CSS saves) available templates.
-Some of the posts have <pre> blocks in them. Whenever the editor is allowed to come up with these posts in its WYSIWYG window, it inserts <pre>…</pre> at the beginning of EVERY LINE!
-I can go to the HTML window, and laboriously edit these out, return to the Editor, and it will PUT THEM BACK IN! I can go edit the block in Word, copy back into the HTML window, and if I return at any point to the editor, it will put the <pre></pre> pairs on every line.
-It also “automatically” makes <span></span> pairs on every line, usually resulting in completely busted text formatting.
-Every third or fourth time I repeat this ordeal, the WordPress window locks up, starts thrashing the hard disc (120GB, 1GB RAM), and crashes the browser.

Try turning off the WYSIWYG editor. You can do this at Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile -> Top of the page. It’s TinyMCE and, if you’re familiar with it, is known for its issues.

As to the trashing issues, that’s probably something on your end I’m afraid. If it wasn’t, this forum would be filled with folks complaining about it.

    Hope this helps,
