Clear and reset my blog to default without installing a "WP Reset" plugin
-
I am new to WP and completely messed up everything and just need to start completely over. I have deleted most content but that still doesn’t return it to default settings. I cannot install a ‘reset’ plugin because I am using a free plan and not able to install plugins.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello-
Yes I have already taken those steps… however, that does not set the site back to the theme default settings which is what I need. Please advise how to return to default settings.

Hi there,
I’ve restored your site to the default content for your theme. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
-
Wow.. thank you! —
So I’ve been working on http://www.bougieforbeginners.wordpress.com while I was waiting for my original site to be reset. Is there a way to take the content and settings from that website and export/import it into the site you just reset, or should I manually start over?
-
Hi again,
You can move over your site with the export/import site tools. If you go to settings and scroll down, you will see the export and import tools there.
Let us know if you need anything else.

I tried but it’s giving me an error because I don’t have Windows Parallel.
I am manually attempting to create the website to replicate the http://www.bougieforbeginners.wordpress.com site, however, in the Sela theme, I am still not getting the static front page with a front page template on the site you just reset.
I know how to set it up correctly because I did it last night. Can you advise?

I set up the site with the default content for the Argent theme which you had active. Changing the theme after doing that doesn’t set it up like the new theme.
I’ve now set with the default content for the Sela theme instead.

Oh ok! Great, thank you so much! I will work on it tonight and hopefully all goes well. Thanks again!

Oh no – some things are still off. For example, now when I attempt to set a featured image, I can click the edit button, but it doesn’t allow me to resize my media. Since trying to reset it to default is there anything else I can do now?
Is it possible to switch my http://www.bougieforbeginners.wordpress.com domain with the one that was just reset (www.bougiewithabudget.wordpress.com) since there are continual issues?
If not, could you please look into what is still going wrong?

Featured images cannot be resized. The size at which they display is controlled by the theme, and some themes even crop the featured image.
You can do some resizing to an image in the media library at My Site ->Media, but that won’t necessarily affect how it displays as a featured image. And for the most part it’s better to resize images offline before you upload them to your library.

If you want to use the other address in your account you’ll need to export content from one site and import it to the other, but I don’t see anything on your site that isn’t working. Setting up the theme with default content is only the first step in the theme setup – it’s not an instant website. You still need to follow the rest of the steps in your theme documentation to set up the theme, and you need to create some pages and other content even before you can do that.

I understand everything you’re saying. However, there is something wrong with my original account. As mentioned, I can no longer edit the media size once it is uploaded. While I can do this before the upload as you recommend – it worries me that the feature is no longer available as it should be (so I know something is wrong).. If you look at my new site http://www.bougieforbeginners.wordpress.com, you will see there were no issues in following the theme directions and setting up what I needed. While my original site appears not to have issues, I cannot set it up the same way as my new account because there is something wrong on the backend. When I try to get the static front home page with the white square (see my new site) it will not work on my old one (sometimes it appears correctly but it will not save… most times it won’t even appear correctly).
-
The reason you can’t edit images on that site is because it is set to private. This is a known issue, and not something we are able to fix at this time. If you set the site to public, you’ll be able to edit the images.

So helpful – yes that worked… What about the static front page with the white box overlay (over the featured image)… I followed the directions from the Sela theme info site, but still can’t seem to get it right.

In My Sites ->Customize ->Content Options you have your site set to not display featured images on pages. Enable that, and your front page will display correctly.

AH You are amazing!!! Fingers crossed it continues to work and don’t mess anything else up… Thanks for helping a newbie!!!!
