clerical error in domain name and mapping? how to resolve?
-
Hello! I have contacted support but have not received an answer yet so I thought I would come here. I recently upgraded my wordpress.com url to purchase the domain name and map it through wp. I received an email saying I now have successfully purchased theurbanfieldguide.com. Great! But when I look at my wordpress account and the list of my domains is there I found an error reading theurbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress Seems obviously like a clerical error but now it is difficult to get to my former blog that I have had for over two years. Plus I don’t want the typo one to exist! Any advice. It’s been two days since I contacted support. Is this normal? Or is there a phone number to call? Thanks for any help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Volunteers cannot help with this issue at all. We do not have backend access to blogs and we cannot apply technical fixes,. Only Staff can so you will have to wait for your support ticket to rise to the top of their support queue and respond to it. I will flag this thread so it gets Staff attention as they do monitor forum threads.

It looks like http://theurbanfieldguide.com/ is currently mapped to http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/
Are you saying that you wanted that mapped elsewhere? If so, where?
-
Thanks time thief and macmanx for the quick reply. I know this seems strange.
I did receive an email from wp stating what macmanx indicates. But, when I login to wordpress and go to ‘My Blogs’ I scroll down and see remedypdx and nightingaleacupuncture my other two blogs, and these allow me access correctly to my accounts. However when I click on The Urban Field Guide (also on this scroll) the page opens to theurbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress. That dotcom is spelled out exactly like that. I believe this is a clerical error. When I look at that blog from the scroll down it is a brand new unused blog with only the intro entry. My old blog, with 100s of entries, is only accessible from a brand new log in under the old wordpress.com log in.
So it looks like to me from my ‘my blogs’ page that I do not own theurbanfieldguide.com
Does this make sense to you? Thank you!

First of all get out of this idea that there is anything called as Clerical Error because no one is a Clerk here…
Everything is done by code not human.. the best can be some bug… though in your case I feel it more of lack of understanding of what is going on….
This is what I understand from all you have said:
1. When you try to access the dashboard http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ you receive a new dashboard with 0 post with the blog heading as
2. When you open http://theurbanfieldguide.com/ in your browser you see your old blog.
In short you want to know how can you access the dashboard of your blog.. Am i right?
If I am right, can you please share the screenshots of your dashboard so that I can provide you with a solution?
of When you want to write a new post to your blog
theurbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress

Also, try this, it may work idk:
http://theurbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress/wp-admin/
if this not works then try
http://theurbanfieldguide.com/wp-admin/
IF still things dont work out you have to provide me with screenshots of your dashboard :(

Actually http://theurbanfieldguide.com/ and http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ are one and the some, the domain is just mapped to it. Perhaps this is the confusion?
Another potential point of confusion is that http://theurbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress.com/ was registered under your nightingaleacupuncture account, but http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ was registered and theurbanfieldguide.com was purchased and mapped to it with a different account.
Are you saying that you meant to register and purchase http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ and theurbanfieldguide.com under your nightingaleacupuncture account?
-
staff-blorbo latter is exactly what he/she means….
she meant to register and purchase http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ and theurbanfieldguide.com under your nightingaleacupuncture account…
lolz
-
Also, I guess if this is revelaed that what new account has she/he made for registration of http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ and purchasing of theurbanfieldguide.com then I dont think she/he would need any special attention from backend. All needed to do is merge the accounts…
P.S.: She must know and should be able to access the account from which she registered and purchased http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ and http://theurbanfieldguide.com/

nightingaleacupuncture, if minerva09 is right about that, we’ll need you to contact us through http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ and file a private request (if the option presents itself) to get this straightened out.
For now, you can still access the blog through the account that you purchased the domain with.

Again, thanks for your help everyone. I’m sorry to offend anyone with the ‘clerical error’ title. I’m pretty new to this whole world. It’s true. But here I am.
Let me start with macmanx: ok, so I’m getting that the ufg.com is mapped with ufg.wp.com. That makes sense to me and is ostensibly what I wanted.
I think that you are right about your second point. I didn’t realize I was registering anything under my nightingale account. I thought it would all just be registered under my actual birth name. So maybe I can clarify my question a bit now that I’ve been schooled.
I don’t know where the urbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress came from. I don’t want it. I just want the urbanfieldguide.com and ufgwp.com. How do I make that new strange one go away without deleting my whole blog?
Then second, how do I consolidate my account so that I can access all 3 blogs from the scroll down, that is so much easier then logging in and out to access them.
Pshwew. Thank you so much.
And Utsav, thank you for your help as well. I think Mac is right on the trail with where I need to go.
Much appreciated!

I guess when nightingaleacupuncture would be online she would be happy to read this lolz :)
HAPPY USERS is what HAPPY CODERS want :p

So the conclusion is you need to go to http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ and file a request for merging your accounts stating the complete scenario of your problem!! :)
-
Thanks Ustav, I did begin that process but now I know I can clarify it further with wanting to merge my accounts. Maybe I will link to this forum page since you and Macmanx are probably speaking their speak waaaaaay better then I can.
I am still wondering though, where did the urbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress come from?
:)

While you wait for us to respond to your private support request, you can delete urbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress.com following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

See no one can tell you what exactly happened but I feel that this is what might have been going on at that time:
1. While you were purchasing your domain you might have been in an illusion that you are actually signed in and buying things under the account name nightingaleacupuncture which you were actually not.
2. I want to ask you a question, before this domain purchasing and urbanfieldguidedotcom.wordpress.com incident what account name you used for logging to dashboard of http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/. If it was nightingaleacupuncture then I guess your blog was transferred to some other account name while you were signing up for a domain name. Tranferring an account is a possible without help from backend.
3. At the end you can merge back your accounts but for this you must know which account is authorized for accessing the dashboard of http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ for which you must file an application at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/. If you think that you wont be able to use the wordpress jagrons I can write the mail for you and publish it here in the forum while you copy and forward it to the above given url. Try to understand this issue needs official attention and privacy which need an application to be filed. There is no altenative.
P.S.: Do you know the name of the account from which http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ can be accessed?
-
Hmmmm. Thank you again. I will do that Macmanx, although I’m so scared I’ll delete my entire blog! But I’ll find the courage .
Ustav, you are so generous, thank you. For some reason or another I have also signed into Nightingale and UFG separately through the wordpress login page. I believe that when I registered my domain and mapped it that I was logged into ufg.wp.com and went to upgrade and there I mapped and registered. So now I see I made two different accounts. I don’t know why it even showed up under nightingale then. I think my email will make sense them, and I did link back here too :)
I always logged into the urbanfieldguide by entering that name in the log in with my password. This does still work.
You all are so great! If you ever have any questions about plants or acupuncture please ask away so I can return the favor!
-
So at the end of story is your problem resolved?
(If you know both your account name you merge both of your account in two steps. )
Thanks for appreciation and acupuncture thing lolz.. I just trying to provide a strong foundation to open forums i.e. promote freeware and opensource :)
-
http://theurbanfieldguide.wordpress.com/ definitely was registered under the other account and has been used as such several times.
It’s not much of a complicated procedure, we just need to know exactly what you want under which account.
We’ll continue through the private support ticket that you filed.
