Trying Gutenberg for the first time. Added “Click to tweet” block in test post.

The quote text shows up but no button?

    This page shows it https://acompanionanthology.wordpress.com/2022/03/07/test/

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

It looks like you’re using the Twitter Tweet Button. Is that correct?

    https://wordpress.com/support/twitter/twitter-tweet-button/

I’m seeing the button on your test page. Did you get it sorted by yourself or are you still not seeing it?

If you don’t see it, I would suggest trying the browser troubleshooting steps to see if they help.

If the browser troubleshooting doesn’t help, please post a follow-up.

    Cheers,
    Eric

The button shows up when I use Microsoft Edge but none of the fixes at https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/
    made any difference to Firefox.

I think I figured it out though. It’s a block that shows up when I’m in edit mode and click “Browse All” when clicking on the “Add Block” button. The “Click to Tweet” block shows up at the bottom of the list under the green circle with two white marks which I now assume means they only work if you have Jetpack and I don’t have any plugins.

    Re https://wordpress.com/support/twitter/twitter-tweet-button/
when I go to “My Site → Tools → Marketing → Sharing Buttons” it is blank. No buttons show up and I assume it’s because I need a premium plan. That’s not going to happen so I guess I’m out of luck but thanks for trying to help.

  • Hi there!

This is what I see on your page using the newest version of Firefox:

Is this what you expected to see?

You do not need to upgrade your plan to show sharing buttons on your site. If they are not showing for you, something in the browser is blocking them. Are you using any extensions, like an adblocker?

Just confirming that in FF 97.0.2 (64-bit) I also see the “click to tweet” button block on your test page. The “click to tweet” button is a separate thing from the regular sharing buttons.

Re: Sharing buttons: When I navigate to your site’s front page, I see Share this: Twitter and Facebook buttons (temp screenshot) so you should see at least those two in the Tools>Marketing>Sharing dashboard.

Do you see those buttons in the Sharing dashboard in Edge? Since you said you could see the “click to tweet” button in Edge, as staff-mckluskey mentioned, the most likely culprit is a browser extension in FF. Additionally, you do need to allow javascript and 3rd party cookies. https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/#more-troubleshooting

Thanks fresatomica and justjennifer. I really appreciate your help. It was indeed an adblocker extension, Adblock Plus to be specific. And thanks for letting me know I don’t need premium for the Sharing buttons to work.

I can’t believe after a forty year career in IT and a decade with WordPress that I didn’t think of the browser and extension causes. At age 68 I guess stuff like this starts to happen but I will not go gently into that good night.

Thank you again for your patience and support.
