Clickable Header in Mistlylook
-
I’ve tried implementing the various CSS edits and text widget fixes on this forum to enable a clickable header that returns back to my homepage. However, none have worked. I assume due to the different themes?
Can someone help me with this on Mistylook?

As you are using Misty Look I’d like to share this post with you first. It explains how you can get rid of some unwanted features without CSS editing http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/unwanted-features-in-mistylook/
I’d also like to share another post with you as well as you are into CSS editing http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
We have only a couple of volunteers who occasionally help with CSS editing and there is not Staff support for learning CSS editing, so you will have to wait until one of them logs in and finds this thread.

Thank you – I’ve been trying the instructions from this thread, which seemed to work for the person who made the request.

But, for me, no success thus far.

That is on a different them (Vigilance) but devblog who is doing the helping there in that thread is the volunteer who volunteers to help with CSS editing. Hopefully, he will login after his work day and find this thread.

I just looked at the unwanted features link you attached above – and it says to edit within the HTML editor. I thought this wasn’t possible with wordpress.com accounts?

No, we cannot change the basic structure of any of our allowed templates, but there are quite a few simple html codes we can use:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#html-tagsSome of them can even be used to make our blogs look very different.
Panos, in this post discusses some things you can change on Mistylook w/o CSS upgrade:

just as Timethief said. -
Look at this illustration. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/#html-editor
There are two tabs – Visual and HTML you just click HTML. -
Ohhhhhhh – THAT editor. I was thinking too hard and looking for something stand-alone, like the format of the ‘Edit CSS’ editor. Sorry about that!

@kissmyspatula
LOL. I have to tell you that I have lots of difficulties with thinking about things and making them more complicated.
Something obvious, I’ll find a way to miss the trees for the forest.

Ok, I’ll see what I can do. By the way, it seems you’ve copied the whole CSS in the CSS Editor. That’s not recommended unless you are “starting from scratch”.
I’d recommend you reading this for future reference:
http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
I’ll post as soon as I have something.

it seems you’ve copied the whole CSS in the CSS Editor.
Never mind… that is not true. However, I saw a few properties that have been already defined and you are duplicating them. Not recommended.
Now, regarding your clickable header… for this to work you’d need a text widget holding the elements that would be position on top of your graphic. Unfortunately, you have this:
#sidebar { display:none; }That’s the parent element that wold contain the text widget and you’re “hiding” it… thus, any child element won’t be visible.
Now, for this to work, I’d recommend you removing that definition from your CSS, remove ALL widgets from the sidebar (if any) and put only ONE text widget with the following code:
<div class="cHeader"> <a href="/"><span>Home</span></a> </div>You would need to add the following in your CSS Editor:
.cHeader { position:absolute; width:765px; height:190px; top:52px; left:10px; overflow:hidden; } .cHeader a { display:block; height:100%; width:100%; } .cHeader span { display:none; } #sidebar li { background:none; }This should do the trick
