Clickable PayPal Button

I am failing to get a clickable PayPal donate button in my sidebar.
Theme = Misty Lake
PayPal email code = https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=Y8U4Y4SB2TA5QI am putting this in a text widget. Sometimes a button appears, but does nothing, and sometimes the text above appears and also does nothing.
Can someone set me on the right course? Thanks. – John

This is the guide that you must follow to post a PayPal donation button on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ Do not add anything. Do not change anything.

Right-O. I was following that very page. Specifically, I was following the admonition in the second paragraph:
“…to add a PayPal button to a widgetized area like a sidebar or footer widget, you’ll need to copy the code into a Text Widget.”
So… what am I doing incorrectly? Thanks. – John

The included code wasn’t formatted properly in HTML, but I fixed it for you.
Next time, just make sure that you follow the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ and copy/paste the resulting code into the widget.

I just did everything here and I am trying to add the PayPal code into a text on the sidebar. It is not working for me. We are trying to sell a book from the sidebar. Can I please get some assistance.

Define “everything here” and specifically, paste the code you are using here between backticks so it displays properly and we can analyze it. Are you attempting to use the encrypted version of the button?

This is the code I am posting in the text format and it is displaying just the code on the sidebar. There is no Paypal image assocation.

Please post the code between backticks so it displays properly instead of trying to execute.

Ok so I did post with backticks and it is not working. In the side bar it still displays as above post. Am I doing something wrong?

We need to see the code for that link here in these forums so we can look at what you are trying to post. The “pasting” between backticks won’t make the code work on your site. It will let us volunteers look at what you are trying to post.
