Clicking description of post within a page that'll bring you to the full post

  I am new to using WordPress and I have a quick question hopefully someone can answer:

  How do you put a post within a page so that you can click on a brief description of what the post is about than once you click on the description, it will bring you to the entire post to read?

  It’s probably a really general questions but I am not sure how to do it…

  Insert “the more tag” into your posts to split content and display only excerpts on the main page for posts in your blog.

  Also, I have one more question that doesn’t pertain to this…

  How do I make it so that my site isnt available for others to see? I would like to update everything before people are able to see what it looks like.
