Clicking edit on the home page crashes the site.

Hello there,
That’s most odd an in issue that I am currently unable to replicate.
Can you tell me if you’re seeing any error messages please?
Also, can you tell me what browser you’re using along with any browser extensions that may be in place please.
Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
No error messages. Upon clicking edit, the screen shows the very beginnings of the editor and then goes blank. I then can not reload or go back to a previous page, but must close the tab and start over.
I am using Safari 14.1.2, the latest I think, and no extensions.
After I sent in my question I found was able to edit using the Classic Editor.

Hello there,
Many thanks for getting back to me with that information.
It sounds like this is an issue that we’re aware of – and clearing the browser cache usually proves to be a fix.
Can you tell me more about the operating system and software in use please.
Many thanks.

OK I emptied the Safari caches (Develop/Empty Caches). The editor still does not load but the page did not crash. The error message when trying to reload a previous WordPress page is the page is not responding do I want to force a reload? Choosing Yes will reload the correct page. Classic Editor still works.
The operating system is macOS 11.5.2, the latest. All other software is the latest version. I try to limit 3rd party software. I have Adobe Digital Editions and Acrobat Reader and Kindle, also Zoom, Skype, Dropbox. The only unusual 3rd party software are two medical image viewers: OsiriX Lite and Horos.
Thanks for the help so far.

Are you willing to install a different browser (say Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) for testing purposes? I’m curious if this is an issue that affects only the latest version of Safari or is a broader issue affecting other browsers as well.
Once you are done testing that, you are welcome to uninstall any browsers you added.
As well, in Safari I’d like you to try temporarily disabling “Prevent cross site scripting” then try to edit your homepage. Does that make the issue go away? You can follow Apple’s steps here for how to disable that as well as reenable it after you test. https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/prevent-cross-site-tracking-sfri40732/mac
Thanks for the additional info!

There was no change when I disabled “Prevent cross-site tracking”. I hope that is what you wanted.
Right now Quick Edit and Classic Edit work. I would prefer not to install another browser. As I said I limit 3rd part software on my machine.
Thanks to both of you for trying to help. WordPress will eventually need to sort this issue out. For now I have a work around.

Clicking edit on the home page worked with Safari for iOS (ie on my iPhone). I was not using the app.

Hi there!
Right now Quick Edit and Classic Edit work. I would prefer not to install another browser. As I said I limit 3rd part software on my machine.
Totally understand that. As a site owner, though, we recommend having at least one other browser even to test out the site temporarily when/if issues arise. Sometimes there are issues that occur on a specific browser but not on others. So the recommended way is to use a different browser while we work on a fix.
WordPress will eventually need to sort this issue out. For now I have a work around.
Glad to hear it! We do have the bug reported to our developers so we’ll fix it as soon as possible.
Regards
