clicking on tags takes readers to other blogs

    It does not seem possible to click on a tag in a post or sidebar and have readers sent to my blog only for posts with the same tag. I know Blogger has this feature, but when you click on tags on WP, it takes you to other people’s blogs with the same tags. I would rather generate traffic for my own blog and not promote other people’s blogs that I know nothing about.

    If they click on the Tag Cloud in the sidebar, readers will be directed within your blog. If they click on the link on the post itself they go to the Global Tag Pages. There are technical and SEO reasons WP.com works this way, but if you’d prefer it didn’t, simply select the option under Privacy to make your blog invisible to search engines and it will be removed from the Global Tag pages.

    Assuming your are referring to http://richmondtravels.wordpress.com/ that is how wordpress.com works.

    Tags/Categories listed under/over/next to your posts lead to ALL blogs on wordpress.com using that same tag or category. Tags and categories listed in the tags and categories widgets in your sidebar will take you to YOUR own blog only.

    Or, if you set your blog to be “medium” private (i.e. publicly accessible bit not found by search engines), then tags and categories listed under/over/next to your posts will lead to your blog only.
    That is not recommended if you want people to find you using Google.

    Using the CSS Upgrade it is possible to not display the tags/categories with the post. Mind you, how this works is very theme-dependent. In some themes, all info is gone, including date,author and number of comments; in some themes (e.g. Journalist v1.9 that I am using) you can be more selective. I have chosen to omit all tags and categories with posts, but in return I have to manually list the tags/categories with each post. Cumbersome, but I prefer it this way.

    Unless you want to start fiddling with the CSS, which I don’t recommend just for this, my suggestion is to use very unique categories and tags, which will ensure that only your posts will appear when the user clicks on those. It can be done.
