post will not publish

Were you posting via Posts -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard or http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ ?

There’s an issue with creating posts on the front page of WordPress.com and with editing posts created there that will not be fixed until the next upgrade. Do not create posts here > http://wordpress.com/#!/post/
Instead I recommend that you ONLY create posts here > Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If you are not successful let us know which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

timethief, which issue are you referring to? This is new as of now. http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ should be working perfectly, until this very moment.
-
-
No really, I’m curious. Not accusing, but if there’s a long-standing issue that I’m not aware of, I’d like to know. Any thread links, etc?
-
It is the > http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ that I cannot use. I can post from the dashboard OK. I was just chatting with WordPress “James” and he said to post from the dashboard only for now.
-
The long standing issue is the fact creating a new post on the front page of WordPress.com here http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ rather than creating them here Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New leads to lost drafts that cannot be recovered as the autosave does not work.

timethief, oh that happens if a user closes the window or goes back while the post is still publishing, before they see a confirmation page.
There isn’t really much that we can do about it.
-
To clarify, there isn’t really much that we can do about it except maybe make the “in progress” a bit more obvious, which will be in the next update.
So, it’s not a bug, but we can make the user experience clearer.

Now I’m completely confused :S because there are pages of threads where I told bloggers so stop creating posts on the front page of WordPress.com. As soon as they started creating posts in their own dashboards instead they had no further problems with disappearing drafts, disappearing images, and disappearing text in drafts.

Sorry about the duplicated link at the end above. Staff leaving work now and I have to go and take over. Will catch up here later. -
Well, it’s a combination of things.
Bugs will hit http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ more frequently than Posts -> Add New, since we’re actively working on it.
However, the case of the lost post is more about the user experience.
If you see “Post published!” on the next page and the post is gone, that’s a bug.
If you never see that and are never taken to another page, that’s because the post hasn’t published yet. If you leave the editor (close the window, press the back button, go elsewhere) before the post has been published, it will be discarded just like any text field.
Currently, the only indicator is that the “Publish” button turns a darker grey and says “Publishing” with a spinner. When it’s done publishing, you’ll see a new screen that says “Post published!”
So, that’s not really a bug, it’s more that folks aren’t noticing the “Publishing” bit and navigate away. In the future, we’ll make that clearer.
-
Now, what is happening here, where the post never publishes, that is definitely a bug. :)
-
We tracked down the issue to an incompatibility with http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ and Internet Explorer 9, and we are working on a fix.
For now, you could either post from Posts -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard with IE 9, or post from http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ with a different browser.
