“Clicks” on Blog Stats Page – Mysterious URL
-
Hello,
Hopefully this is a quick question that someone can help me with as I am fairly new to wordpress and blogging.
I noticed a mysterious link on my blog stats page under the “Clicks” section on the lower right hand side. I understand this area normally lists links/urls that my visitors have clicked on while in my site. Today listed under “Your visitors clicked these links on your blog” is a URL I don’t recall adding to my site in any of my entries. It’s listed as hannahlovegrove.wordpress.com/wp-admi….I don’t know hannahlovegrove or have any connection to this blog. I do know there are Google ads that appear periodically on wordpress blogs that visitors can select but this doesn’t seem to be a link to an advertiser or is it? When I click on the hannahlovegrove url listed it actually takes me to http://wordpress.com/signup/?new=dishee as if I am signing up for another wordpress blog.
Can anyone advise why this link is showing up here or how to check if I mistakenly added this link to my site? Is there a way to easily see all active links listed on my blog?
Thanks in advance for your help.

It’s the address of someone who has clicked through to their own WordPress.com blog from yours. If you look at a WordPress blog, you’ll see the blue bar up top. If you hover on My Dashboard and click that, it’ll take you back to your blog’s dasboard and register it as a click on that person’s stats. It’s normal and nothing to worry about. :)

Oh, great; makes perfect sense! Just never saw another user listed in there before; I thought this area was just listing only the urls I embedded in my site that were clicked/selected. Thanks so much for your speedy help.

You didn’t add it to your site.
If you look right above the comment box on an individual post, there are two links (for users who are signed into wp.com). One is linked to the username and it redirects the user to his/her dashboard. If there is no blog with that name then it takes you to the page where you can sign up for a blog.
So in my case, my username (katm) didn’t have a blog http://katm.wordpress.com/ associated with it (although it now does) so when I clicked on it, it directed me to the page to sign up for a blog with that name. Now that I’ve registered that blog (heck, it’s my user name) that link will redirect me to my dashboard.
Hope this makes sense. It’s late (or very early depending on how you look at it), and I’m more than a little sleep deprived.

Thanks so much for your quick answers katm – especially, if you’re writing from the states and have been up all night! Whew…It’s only 5:15 pm here – in Europe so our night is just beginning. Rest well.

@dishee: Yes, it kind of freaks you out the first time you see it. But it’s just something that happens with WordPress blogs, so you’ll get used to it when you start to see it a few more times. You’re welcome and happy blogging.
@katm: No worries. It’s been happening a lot since we lost the edit feature. It’s usually me! :)

Heh. I’m in Asia. So it’s 01:21 right now. Which makes it very late or very early :-)
Back to hiding. Except this time,
