“Clicks” vs. rightt click downloads
-
I have placed some mp3 files on my blog for download. I had been using the ‘clicks’ section to monitor the number of downloaders of these files. But it just occurred to me that this section is probably just recording the number of people that ‘left click’ the file and do not actually download it. Is there any way to see how many people have actually downloaded the file via right clicking/”saving as”? The mp3 files are hosted elsewhere, and I am not sure what stats I can get from there.

If your files are not hosted at WordPress.com, then there’s no way for WP.com to track the file download counts. When someone clicks (either left or right), it will pull the mp3 file from whatever host it sitting on. So if someone clicks on a mp3 file hosted on another server, then that other server is the only server that knows it’s been requested, etc.

Actually, thinking about this again, the mp3 files I posted are not hosted by WP. But I posted some PDFs that ARE WordPress hosted. Are there any stats available for these?

You only get access to a few stats and all of those stats are in your admin panel, so if it’s not there, then you don’t get access to that stat.

I have a similar question: have uploaded some pdf files in a post; is there no realistic way of knowing how many times those have been downloaded?
