I should add, this only happens in the most convenient place to click… the post itself, not in the sidebar. How much would it cost to NOT have this feature?

This is just part of how wordpress works. Tags and categories link globally from your posts but locally from the widgets. There is no way to change this behaviour but it is possible in some themes to hide the tags and categories in each post if you purchase the CSS upgrade. In this instance you would have to hide all of the metadata, including the date and author with the code below. You can preview changes for free before deciding if you want to pay for the upgrade.

If you would like to keep using the current theme but have the tags and categories local you can choose the privacy option “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors ” by choosing the following option the tags and categories will be come local instead of global…
