Close Account

I have made several attempts to close my account using the close account feature and it says sorry there was a problem closing your account, please contact support. There is no manageable way of doing this.

  • Hi there,

You cannot close your account at this time, because there is a pending chargeback for a recent renewal payment.

We offer a full refund on all upgrades if you contact us within 30 days. But if you dispute a charge instead, you are essentially accusing us of fraud, and the payment is frozen pending an investigation. Additionally, your site is locked pending payment of a chargeback fee. You won’t be able to close your account until both the dispute is resolved, and the chargeback fee is paid.

You can read our full policy here:

    Chargebacks & Disputes

If you are willing to cancel the dispute with your bank we might still be able to refund you ourselves and remove the lock with you having to pay the chargeback fee. Otherwise you will need to wait for our payment processor to complete their investigation, which could take eight to twelve weeks, and you will also need to pay the chargeback fee before you’ll be able to close the account.

Thanks. I didn’t level any accusations of fraud. Accusing WP of fraud was not my intention.

While I don’t recall clearly or completely all the details that brought me to challenge the renewal in the manner I did, I do recall the problem was technical in nature. I couldn’t find a way to close the account and my emails went unanswered.

I don’t recall receiving a renewal notification and had no number to contact to discuss billing so challenging the charge was the only way I found I could resolve the issue at that time.

It’s not a lot of money, but I didn’t see the rationale in continuing to pay for a site that I could not support or continue to manage.

Anyway, I have received a notice from Amex that they have determined that I am responsible for the amount in question and are re-billing the charge to my account.

Admittedly, I didn’t read the policy and the terms as thoroughly as I should have.

    Lesson learned.

  • Once we have received confirmation from your payment provider, we’ll remove the changeback, and you’ll be able to close the account.

Depending on the payment provider, this could take eight to twelve weeks.
