    Hi there,

The account itself cannot be deleted. It is set up that way to prevent someone else from gaining access to your site and pretending to be you.

If you want to get rid of your account details, follow this link and remove all personal information from your account.

Change your email address to a throwaway address and change the password to something random that you won’t remember to prevent you from gaining access to it in the future. Or, you can just block all emails and keep the account dormant in case you may want to use it again in the future.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you, Mariah. I no longer feel I NEED to close my WordPress.com account.
Conclusion: Everyone should be aware of the WordPress jetpack plugin. It is intrusive and will cause certain problems and when installed it makes irreversible changes within your WordPress site (at least for sure the self hosted sites), therefore deleting it, after the damage is done, does not correct the problem and the only solution that worked for me was to completely reset my WordPress site…something I would not wish on anyone.

Background: Btw, my site is not hosted on WordPress.com – don’t know if that matters. When I chose my theme I made a lot of changes to it, deleting a lot of things. I also added plugins in the beginning, jetpack being one of them.

For my Blog purpose, I need individual sidebars for each post, not each page. I found two plugins that allowed that, but neither would work on my site…they each wouldn’t work… in exactly the same way. So I concluded the problem was not with the plugins. After numerous conversations with the theme developer and one of the plugin developers, I had no resolution. Completely frustrated, I asked my hosting provider to reset my site.

I started all over again, yesterday. It took hours, but everything was functioning perfectly. Including the individual sidebar plugin. After I was all finished, I decided I needed to install the jetpack plugin, so my site will be protected, etc. As soon as I activated it, my sidebar stopped showing up….exactly as happened before. Now I knew the problem all along was jetpack. So I deleted jetpack, but that did not fix the problem. Now I know it makes irreversible changes when installed. I wanted to delete my wordpress.com account because jetpack is connected to it and I just had a desperate thought that since deleting jetpack didn’t fix the problem, maybe deleting the wordpress.com account would. Just a desperate thought.

Thanks again for responding, Mariah. Beware of the jetpack plugin….tell everyone!

    You’re most welcome.

Sorry to hear you were having trouble. Hopefully you will be able to target the problem and get it resolved.

The forum here is for questions related to sites hosted on WordPress.com, not self hosted sites. You may be able to find answers to your questions on WordPress.org, which handles questions related to sites that ARE self hosted.

With Jetpack being installed on your site, it allows you to log in on WordPress.com to manage your self hosted site. A lot of users have it enabled. I’m not sure what could have caused the problems you experienced. Have you tried seeking help and expressing your concerns with Jetpack support? http://jetpack.me/contact-support/

    Best of luck!

Thanks again, Mariah. I will contact jetpack to see what they have to say about what happened to my site when I installed it.

    Take care.
