Close button on media file

Hi there, I’m using free wordpress website and it isn’t linked to custom domain. I’m very new and novice in using wordpress so any help would be appreciated.

Each image in the website is linked to display media file. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find any close or back button once the image is clicked. Is there anyway to add that? Currently I have to click back button in the browser to go back to the page but it will be really useful if just x button when the media file is displayed. Can someone help on this? Thank you!

  • Good Morning –

Our team will be happy to help you out here. It sounds to me like you want the viewers to be able to click through a group of images. There are a few different ways to approach this. Knowing more about your goals and required functionality for the project are going to help us narrow down these options for you. Please write back and share more details with us!

I’ve included a few considerations below.

This page explains the different media setting options you have:

These are some different ways you can include multiple images on any post or page:

Looking forward to learn more about this project and how we can help you be successful. Cheers.

    Hello!

Thanks for getting back but oh I think my question might have been misunderstood.

It’s simpler than what you’ve described – whenever there is any images in the page, I link it to media file (so people can click and see larger image) but unfortunately when the larger image is open, there is no close button (i.e. X on the right hand side of the image, that sort of thing).

So it just looks like that. And in order to go back to the page, I have to click the back button in the browser…

Is there any way to add X button and ‘Close’ button on the image when it’s liked to media file?

Thanks again for your help and hope it can be doable…

With the images linked to the media files, what is happening is that the image is being opened in the same tab as the home page, so a close icon would not work in this case.

Currently with the image blocks, we do not have a “lightbox” sort of featured that will open the image in an overlay so that it could be closed.

With the Gallery Block, it would open each image clicked in a carousel overlay that would then have the close icon, and also allow the visitor to cycle forward and back through the images you have on the home page in that gallery. The info you have below the images can be added as a caption to the images.

You may want to create a draft test page and try the Gallery Block and see if you think that would work for you.

I see! Thank you so much for explaining and your help. I will have a go at trying to rebuild the page using gallery block then.

    Thanks again!
