Close off account with paid up domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am trying to close off my fathers account (he has since died) however there is no way to close it off with an active domain and there is no way to send an email directly to WordPress themselves to get the problem resolved. I have also tried to change the email associated with the domain name but it keeps going back to the old email address which is no longer accessible. Is there a solution – someone I can contact at WordPress or do I need to kick up a stink just WordPress people actually help me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi micawbr, I’ve got the password etc. and can access it but the problem is that there is no way to change the email address in ‘Domain Contacts’ – I change it, click save then come back and it is still the same old email address. How can I contact WordPress directly or do I need to threaten them with legal action to provide me with a way to get in contact with them?

Great, and now it keeps on redirecting me to this place that provides no help what so ever. Really, do I need to get a lawyer involved at this point? I’m dealign with my dad’s funeral and these assholes at WordPress can’t even be bothered supporting their paying customers. FML.

I strongly suggest that you stop uttering threats and adjust your attitude knowing there is one and one means of account recovery. https://en.support.wordpress.com/deceased-user/

timethief, and threatening me is any better? WordPress has made it next to impossible to get in contact with them to resolve this issue by hiding all forms of contact behind 100 layers of forms rather than just a simple direct email address.

I am annoyed because I’ve been trying to fix up the ICANN information for the website for at least 4 days and every time I click ‘save’ the contents are never actually saved and it keeps coming back to an unaccessible email address which is entirely useless to me. When WordPress people make it next to impossible to do even the most basic tasks on their website then I do think I’m well within my rights to throw a temper tantrum.

timethief, btw, it is only recovery – I already have the password and I can already do what I need to do, the issue is dealing with the domain name etc. and your abuse hasn’t helped one iota.

timethief, * the links you provide are only about recovery, I already have the password so that isn’t the issue.

ICANN information is relevant only when referring to a blog on a custom domain and http://lougardinerassociates.wordpress.com/ does not appear to have any domain mapping in place.

I’m sorry but we cannot provide accurate answers to any blogger who fails to provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the exact blog they refer to so we can verify where it is hosted. Please do that now.

  • Is the account you are posting from your father’s account?

rootjosh: I need to change the ICANN record to a new email address but every time I change it then click save none of the information is actually saved. When I try to turn it back to private I get told to contact support which just directs me to this forum which is of no help.

  • Okay. Sorry for the delay in replying, I needed to check in with a colleague.

I can absolutely help you with that.

Just to clarify, if you want to cancel your domain lougardinerassociates.com it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and it may not choose to do so. We can’t guarantee that your domain will ever be available to you again once canceled. If you have any intention of using lougardinerassociates.com again in the future, at any webhost, I suggest that you do not choose to cancel.

Please confirm that you understand and want to cancel your domain. Once you have done so, I will cancel it and remove the upgrade from your account.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
