  Hi
  This is a long shot … but does anyone know how to setup a pop-up window that one is able to close by clicking on an “X” in the top right corner of that window. I want a viewer of the site to be able to click on a thumbnail image which then enlarges to be readable, and can be easily closed without leaving the site.

  I’m on WP.com Premium so no access to plugins

  The Gallery feature (combined with the default Photo Carousel) does exactly that. You can create a Gallery with a single image.
