Closing a website
-
Hi, my company is considering closing down it’s current website to free up the domain name or possibly create a new website. How would one go about this? I am not the person who created the website but am currently the one who ‘runs’ it. The creator has gone AWOL as of 4 years ago.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please note the above link is not the actual website, I do not wish to disclose the real website at the moment.

Hi there,
I’m afraid we cannot accurately advise you without knowing the website, as the answer will differ significantly depending on whether the site is on WordPress.com or using the open source WordPress software at another host.
If the site is on WordPress.com, you can create a new site and move the domain over to the new site, then deleting the old site or setting it to private. Or we can just empty the existing site for you, allowing you to start from scratch without having to create an actual new site.
If you’re using WordPress at another host, you’ll need to contact support at that host, as each hosting provider has their own process for this.

Thank you. I’ve redacted that address from your reply so only staff can see it.
That site is indeed using the open source version of WordPress, and is hosted with https://www.admax.se/, so best to contact them to find out their process for taking a site offline and transferring the domain to another site or provider.
