Closing an account

    I registered for a WordPress account thinking that it was for the purpose of reading someone’s blog on here. When the question on registration came about a topic, I entered the name of the blog I wanted to read. Setting up a personal WordPress blog for myself was not my intention at this time. If I close this (haven’t fully completed the registration and payment process), will I be able to open an account with the same email & user name at some point I in the future?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hello there ,

    There is no way that you or anyone else can use the same username in the future for an account that has been closed.

    When you delete your account, your email address remains in our system for 30 days. This means that you cannot use your account’s email address to sign up for a new WordPress.com account.

    @mlmkinney,

    Hi. @amiteshg93 is correct regarding the consequences of closing the account, but it’s not clear to why that would be even be desirable under the circumstances. You’ve created a WordPress.com, so if you subscribe to the site that you mention, and others if you wish, as described in the Following Blogs support page, you’ll be able to easily read new posts published by them in the Reader. Subscription also gives you the option of receiving email notification of new posts on the blog(s) you’re following. It’s not necessary to be on a paid plan to do the above — free accounts have the same access and email notification privileges — so you needn’t go through with the payment process that you refer to.

    Secondly, it’s not clear whether you’ve created a website or not, but it doesn’t matter much. If no site has been created, then you’ve arrived at the intended position. If you did create a website, then it may be left in the Coming Soon privacy status, or it could be Launched and then made private. With either of these privacy choices the site may be left inactive indefinitely (no time limit). Or you could permanently delete the site, without affecting the account privileges.
