closing comments

  If I close comments on a post which has already existing comments, will it delete those comments? I’d like original comments to remain, but would like to close the post to new comments.

  No part of your published content (posts, pages, text widgets, comments, whatever) is ever deleted unless you edit that content and click a Delete button. If you disable commenting on a post which has already existing comments, then on very few themes the existing comments will not show, but on most themes they remain visible.
