closing shop, does this make sense

Due to my workload, I’m thinking of closing my blog down for 6 months or so. I’m wanting to do it in a way that requires no babysitting on my end and as little confusion for readers as possible. Just ignoring it isn’t something I’m able to do, since dinking with it is more fun than real work. I’m soliciting comments on these options – tell me if there’s something wrong with my logic or if I’m missing an attractive option.

Option 1: Make a final post and then close comments on every post and page.
Pros: clear to readers, let’s people get at old stuff if they care.
Cons: a lot of work to go close comments on 160+ posts. Still possible for some problem with downloads page (but not too risky)

Option 2: Like above, only just force all comments into moderation
Pros: easy to do, let’s people get stuff
Cons: possibly confusing since readers may not notice I’m ignoring comments, hard for me to ignore like I need to

Option 3: Make it a private blog with no users, redirect url to another stub blog with final post
Pros: easy to do, nothing to babysit
Cons: people can’t get to stuff at all, will the redirect work?

I’m leaning toward option 3, so I want to make sure I’m understanding the redirect right. Here’s what I’m thinking I need to do. Does this sound right?

    1. On main blog, move blog back to its native wordpress.com name
    2. On stub blog, add my two domain names that currently point to my blog. Put stub blog on one domain name, redirect the other as now is done on main blog.

Any other good options I’m not thinking of? My first choice would be a one click, close comments on all existing posts, but as far as I can tell, that doesn’t exist.

Make your final post, say you’re taking a 6-month break, invite people to comment with a caveat that they might not see their post appear for a few days or weeks. Re-direct with links.
