Closing the Gap between the Entry Title and a Slideshow

    Wow…I guess I’ll be redoing that one. Dang it. Thanks for the info on the rest.

    Hey, thesacredpath..Is it possible to hide the searchform on mobile view? I reduced space at the top of the container, so it looks a little off again. I want it to be set like below, but I would have to hide the searchform on mobile completely. I have a secondary in the sidebar, so (even though it’s at the bottom) it’s fine.

    header[role=”banner”] #searchform {
    position: hide;
    right: 0px;
    top: 50px;
    }

  • Unknown's avatar

    The position was meant to be the one you gave me, “Absolute”.

    Scratch^, Man…..I have the container top set up as I like, with the searchform in the position I’d like it to remain in.

    header[role=”banner”] #searchform {
    position: absolute;
    right: 0px;
    top: 41px;
    }

    Is it possible to hide the default upper searchform on mobile? The overlap is severe. I noticed, after removing the code, that the searchfrom is not visible on mobile in landscape at all now. Can I allow that “hide” to apply to this code, so everything can stay intact on the desktop view?

    ^That problem made me ponder this…

    1) I’d really like to hide the site title, site description and default search form completely.

    2) Doing that to close the container top padding gap some, and bring the content up under the navigation closer. I think Hudson has enough representation present, so those first 2 items are just obstructions.

    3) With my widget search form present, I’d like to remove the upper search form to avoid the same kind of obstruction. Opening up that space, so I can close the gap.

    4) I’d still like to be able to hide the default search form on mobile, if I decide to scrap this new desired arrangement, because everything looks pretty well lined up at the moment.

  • Unknown's avatar

    To hide the search form in the header:

    header[role="banner"] #searchform {
    display: none;
    }

    1) I’d really like to hide the site title, site description and default search form completely.

    When? all the time at all widths, or only at certain widths? If only on narrower screens, how would people know where they were if there is no site title?

    The site heading image div is still above the site title., add this to remove it.

    #site-heading img {
    display: none;
    }

    If you wish to tighten up the header area more,

    #site-heading {
        padding-top: 0;
    }
    .site-description {
        margin-bottom: 0;
    }

    Well, I switched up the codes to remove those items, because it’s really what I was hoping to accomplish. Thanks for the base code. I was really close with guesswork, but still wrong. I’ve got enough identification presence scattered around. Besides, if they’re going to the site, it’s because they were sent a direct email with live links. I’m fairly certain we will be good to go, without them. :)

    Added the site title as the menu tab for Home, just in case.

    Along with ^…A strange glitch is occurring, but it actually works with my themed safety importance. The full page width pages (all safety related) snap to align to the top line of the content container; seemingly more important…Works for me! It’s resulting from those full-width pages not picking up the 6px top margin I’d set to drop the main into the content, (initially) for your viewing of the rounded corners. I think I’ll just leave it as is. Any idea why that might be happening, though?

    Hey, Man..I dropped the searchform down into the sidebar to fill a gap that’s bothered me. It’s in a great spot, the change you guys made to hide it on mobile played in and I hid it on full width pages.

    Only problem is that you can’t just click and start typing, you have to run the cursor over the far left side of the searchform window for it to be recognized and allow text to be entered. Like, clicking the center of the search window has no effect at all. You have to sneak your cursor up on that far left inner edge, then it changes your pointer to a | to allow text entry.

    Can this be addressed, or should I just remove it from that position? I really dig it there, but do have a secondary search widget in place. I just like the way it filled the gap.

    If I can keep it there, and adjust the text field for cursor recognition, I’d like to reduce it’s width to fit within the widgets’ dimensions. Currently, it’s a little wide.

  • Unknown's avatar

    You have a search widget in the sidebar. I would suggest moving that up to where you have the other one and then just do a display none on the header search with

    #searchform {
        display: none;
    }

    If you want two search boxes in your sidebar, one at the top and one further down, just add a second search widget. There is no limit on the number you can add.

    I appreciate that info. I’ve tweeked things to a degree I like. I’m going to add instructional text nearby, so they know to click the far left of the input field, because I prefer the banner width over the narrower widget’s width.

    If it’s not problematic, I’d like to leave it where I have it. It seems to be working, but my mobile view suffers. If I can block the CSS for the widget positioning, or designate the current CSS as desktop only (so it’s in the default appearance on mobile view), I’d do that. I do want the two search forms, but two narrow ones would just look off in my opinion. Can this be accomplished?

    ^that & a side note:

    I could just put 11 search bubbles, like I had 11 category dropdowns in the begining. LOL

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve got it setup as you’d described, and the same unfixable gap just keeps staring me in the face.

  • Unknown's avatar

    The searchform banner looked great, but just didn’t function. The widget search worked, but is too narrow and left an insane gap above it with no title in place. Ughhhhh….Just went back to the way it was, before I started trying to fix that gap between the top widget image and the Industry Listings widget below it again. I’ve tried everything to fix it, and when it looks professional, and I’ve finally closed that gap up, the searchform doesn’t work. Go figure!

    I appreciate your pointers, though. Wanted to mention that, after the mild rant.

    Been back on the meds, since Feb. 1, so I’m starting to lose that spark and get all crabby. Thanks for helping me get it to this point. Had to crunch a mild crash course in HTML and CSS into that 3 month-off window. This company desperately needed a web presence, and now (thanks to yourself & WordPress’ awesomeness) it finally has one! Thanks, Richard!!! You, Sir, are the Man. Hope to stay in touch, and possibly have your assistance on my next site. After this one, I’ll ask far fewer questions. LOL…Aloho, Bra! Mahalo, BIG time!!!!! Pau hana, for me.
