Cloudflare with non-wordpress domain registrar
-
Is it possible to get Cloudflare working properly if WordPress isn’t the domain registrar?
I got Cloudflare set up last week, becuase WordPress was suggesting it on my dashboard. I let Cloudflare generate the DNS entries automatically, and it was working fine.
However, today it stopped working. I would guess the WordPress server IPs changed. But as far as I can see, the only way to get Cloudflare pointing to WordPress is using an A record, which needs an IP. This means the site will break whenever these dynamic IPs change.
What is the correct setup for Cloudflare? I tried their workaround of using CNAME @ <website>.wordpress.com, but that got stuck in a redirect loop.
I’ve had to point my registrar back to WordPress instead of Cloudflare, and now I’m stuck with downtime until the DNS records propagate. This is incredibly frustrating because WordPress was advertising this, so I expected it to work. And no, I won’t transfer my domain to WordPress.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks for reaching out! It is possible to use Cloudflare DNS on WordPress.com even if WordPress.com isn’t the domain registrar.
The instructions for setting this up can be found here: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058639551-WordPress-com-and-Cloudflare
I’ve responded to your email to WordPress.com support as well and look forward to hearing back!
