CloudUp: indexed by search engines>
-
Freelance writing contracts typically forbid subsequent publication of the article, even on the author’s site. This coerced my research into password protecting a samples folder, because I do not want such files indexed by search engines. I learned through these forums that feature is not available. Rather, one must password protect individual files. I refuse to foist that degree of friction on potential clients. While researching options, I discovered sibling site, CloudUp.com. That appears to present a mighty fine solution.
I researched CloudUp, to determine if its contents are crawled/ indexed by search engines. I found only one on point resource: a post here suggests that, unlike the public Media Library which is crawled, CloudUp is not. (Post discussing CloudUp) I’m simply looking for staff confirmation on 2 points.
- search engines do not access / index CloudUp files
- when I provide a CloudUp link at my WordPress.com site, will that particular CloudUp file be indexed?
If the answer to #2 is yes, individual linked files will be indexed, then I’ll know to provide an image-based PDF to thwart indexing.
TIA

Hi there,
Per Cloudup’s FAQ:
The Cloudup team is serious about security, which is why we use the finest Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and encryption protection methods out there. Cloudup stream URLs are not crawlable by search engines and will only be indexed in obscured results if they are shared in a public space (e.g. social media channels, your blog, etc.), and no one can view your password-protected streams without your permission.
Hopefully this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
