“Cloudy” – a Word Cloud Plugin – could it be a Widget?
-
Hi
I just found a cool WordPress Plugin which I think would only work with stand-alone code and not for blogs hosted here and wordpress.com.
The plugin is here: http://www.web-specialist.us/?p=24
It is called “Cloudy” and is a word-cloud generator similar to the one that I’ve screenshotted here: http://aphrabehn.wordpress.com/2007/02/14/word-clouds/
It looks SO cool – is there any chance it could be turned into a widget?

This tag cloud has previously being requested by come bloggers (see: the forum search box https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=tag+cloud). Your best bet to be heard is to join the others requesting it by sending in a feedback to staff including the reasons why your feel you would like to have it.

Yah. it’s cool..
I also wanna get iG:Syntax Hiliter plug-in.

As DrMike suggested, i hav sent a feedback to wp about it. but i got no reply..
maybe. i guess, wp guys are very busy… I understand that. hopefully, this plug-in will be added very soon.. :) -
We have no indication what the time frame will be. But I’m glad to hear you’ve taken the correct course of action. :)

I’m rather surprised that a tag cloud widget hasn’t been added. Seems like staff likes them as you see them on nearly every one of their sites and forums.

I’ve added a post to the longest thread I could find. With respect though, the word cloud is different from the tag cloud, and imho it’s cooler.
The plugin I’ve found generates its cloud from the content of your blog, not from the tags.
Thanks for the guidance guys and gals.

I politely point out that means you’re spamming the forum. Please don’t cross post on the same topic. Most forums usually look down on doing stuff like that.
Please send in a feedback with this suggestion. You can find the feedback link at the upper right of any of your backend pages. Staff has stated many times over that they keep track of such requests sent in via feedback.
My apoligizes for confusing tab cloud and word cloud. Gotta admit though that’s probably going to be a down side actually since it’s going to probably require scanning the entire database of the blog over a simple scan of the category table.
Might solve the issue of tag pollution though. I found a blog with a couple dozen tags within each post. None of them actually fit the topic of the thread.

See, now if the Snap people would hook up with the Word Cloud people, THAT would be a cool install. Hover over a given post and poof, word cloud.

Dr Mike, I am sorry you think I’m spamming. It was entirely unintentional.
I don’t actually *have* a “Feedback” button you see. It turns out that the theme I am using hides it, so I misinterpreted the advice I was given. Without an obvious button saying “Feedback”, I thought I was being told to go over and add my comments to the longest existing thread, which is what I did.
When I was told in that thread that I should have a “feedback” button top right of my dashboard I realised that there was something literally missing, and submitted a support form. Matt explained to me that the Garland theme hides the button. Matt did tell me to email my suggestion to WordPress Support because they are the guys who read the feedback forms anyway. So I did that.
As I said, I am sorry that I spammed the forum. I did follow the instructions I was given to the best of my ability, but tripped up because of the quirk of a particular theme.
I do take nettiquette seriously as I hope you can see from the rather complicated way that I finally managed to find the right thing to do.

Not a problem. That’s why I “poliely pointed it out” to you. :)
Since it’s the weekend, I’m going to suggest waiting until Monday before sending in an email to support at this domain. Please explain the suggestion in your email and include a link to this thread so that staff sees we’ve discussed it. The links you listed up above would be a plus as well. You may also want to mention that you can’t see the feedback link as well. Please do mention your browser and browser version to them.
Hoep this helps,

Well I emailed them yesterday, though I don’t think I put all the information in that you suggested. I certainly put in a link to the guy who’s developed the plugin. I’ll check my outbox on Monday, and see what I missed out. I’m a browser-tart though so heaven knows what browser I was using at the time!
Cheers.

There appear to be two threads going at the same time on this but I would like to respond to raincoaster’s post above.

I prefer an alphabetical or hierarchical list any day to a “tag cloud”. I consider tag clouds to be messy looking and a waste of space. I avoid the use of any sidebar tat or pop-ups like “snap” on my blogs and categorize tag clouds as “tat”.
On all wordpress blogs I can already read the categories assigned to the post in question, although I have observed that many do not reflect the post’s contents on some blogs, where the blogger is addicted to the use of tag pollution and “sexy” labels assigned to get hits.
I’m for tag clouds as an option although personally I will probably never use them on my blogs. In fact I do not use the “tag cloud” on the FAQs blog. I type the key words into the search box.
