CNAME and NS Records cannot be edited – changing host to Squarespace
-
I was wondering why the CNAME (with the asterisk) and the NS Record are locked and cannot be edited. I am trying to move my website over to Squarespace for the past week and have run into many issues. I wrote to SS and they recommend I request that the NS and *CNAME get unlocked so I can direct my site to the new one. Will this impact my domain mapping? Should I try to change these or does it not matter? This is what I have right now:
Existing DNS Records
A elizabethgreenwriter.com handled by WordPress.com
NS elizabethgreenwriter.com handled by WordPress.com
CNAME *.elizabethgreenwriter.com handled by WordPress.com
CNAME ezc1qpyynyfbkbclyauz.elizabethgreenwriter.com alias of verify.squarespace.com.
A http://www.elizabethgreenwriter.com points to 198.185.159.144
A http://www.elizabethgreenwriter.com points to 198.185.159.145
A http://www.elizabethgreenwriter.com points to 198.49.23.144
A http://www.elizabethgreenwriter.com points to 198.49.23.145
CNAME http://www.elizabethgreenwriter.com alias of ext-cust.squarespace.com.My Nameservers are pointing to ns1.wordpress.com and so on becuase I’ve read to keep it that way and I have disabled domain locking and private domain to allow the transfer to go through.
Am I doing everything right?
Thank you very much in advance!!

I finally got it to work. For the record I don’t think the *CNAME and NS need to be “unlocked” but I’m such a novice at this that it could have been anything that finally got my website to work.
Anyway, please disregard and thanks timethief for tagging it to staff assistance!
