CNAME and Quick Shopping Cart (GoDaddy)

    Hello,

    Forgive me, I’m a newbie.

    Here are the details:

    1. I have a domain that I bought through godaddy.com, http://2112creations.com
    2. In addition I have a quick shopping card through goddaddy.com http://shop.2112creations.com
    3. I have a blog with Word Press, hosted by godaddy.com http://2112creations.wordpress.com which I set up so when you click go to my blog, it goes right to my domain.
    4. I spoke to Godaddy support and in order to use my quick shopping cart (as a link) on my blog under the domain 2112creations.com and they said, “You need to contact your hosting provider to have your shop CNAME point to the following IP address: 208.109.1.1

    5. I went Under Dashbord-domains, and “edit DNS” then entered the below text:

    CNAME shop.2112creations 208.209.1.1.

Is this the correct text that should be entered so that when you click on the Quick Shopping Cart link (shop.2112creations.com) under my Word Press Blog (2112creations.com name servers have previously been pointed to Word Press) it goes to the Quick Shopping Cart page and doesn’t just recycle to my blog under 2112creations.com?

    Thanks for your help!

I have a blog with Word Press, hosted by godaddy.com http://2112creations.wordpress.com

No, that blog is hosted by WordPress.com. Perhaps you mean that the domain name is registered through GoDaddy.

If you want to enter a CNAME record for the subdomain “shop”, do not include “2112creations” in the record. This is the proper way to enter CNAME records in WordPress.com’s Edit DNS feature.

Thanks @airdoyssey for the super fast response and for letting me know that WordPress hosts my blog…that makes sense.

To confirm, this is what should go into the WordPress.com’s Edit DNS feature to accomplish what I need for the “shop” subdomain:

    CNAME shop thenecessaryipaddress

    Thanks again.

I’m not sure an IP address would work in a CNAME record (I never tried it) but for sure, do not include “2112creations” there.

If you still have difficulties, I would contact staff when the form reopens tomorrow: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ (to display the form, search for anything in the search engine, then indicate that you haven’t found the answer to your question)

Thanks Airodyssey. I will givethe i.p. address in the CNAME record a few (24-48) hours and if that doesn’t work I’ll contact staff.

I really appreciate your help and have a good night.

You’re welcome, and you have a good one too :-)

    Deborah,

You are actually going to need to create two A records for your Quick Shopping Cart. They are going go be shop. and http://www.shop. The IP for these should be the IP that you were provided. Based on the help article airodessey provided, they should look like the following:

    A shop 208.209.1.1.
    A http://www.shop 208.209.1.1.

Let me know if there is anything else you need.

    Hi James/airodessey:

Thanks for your help. I entered the record as below (I didn’t include the http:// because the DNS would not validate if it was there).

    A shop 208.109.1.1.
    A http://www.shop 208.109.1.1.

And to confirm, I am not doing anything with the CNAME recored?

shoot, I need to edit my post and remove the i.p. I put in there and put in a generic one…

    Hello James,

It’s been a little over 24 hours since I edited the two A records in Word Press to the below (I didn’t include the http:// because it wouldn’t validate) and my shopping cart site shop.2112creations.com still recycles back to my domain 2112creations.com

    A shop 208.209.1.1.
    A http://www.shop 208.209.1.1.

    Any ideas?
