Cname and subdomains
-
I have a domain name through 1&1 which I have pointed to wordpress (as a primary domain). However, it has also pointed my subdomain (shop.middleofnowhere.cc) to my primary domain too. I have added ‘shop’ as a new cname through the wordpress store and pointed it to my bigcartel site and big cartel still has ‘shop.middleofnowhere.cc’ pointing as its alias but it still doesn’t seemt to work. I still have ‘shop.middleofnowhere.cc’ set as a subdomain in 1&1 – do I need to delete this or is there a step I have missed.
Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,
I can help with your CNAME setup. I think I am clear on what is not working, however, I’m not entirely certain how you want everything to function. Could you please explain the DNS behavior you’re hoping to attain? Then we can get you up and running :)
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much! -
Hello,
Thanks for replying.
All I’m wanting to do is have a link to my shop in the menu and for that link to show as ‘shop.middleofnowhere.cc’ whilst displaying the content from ‘www.middleofnowhere.bigartel.com’.
Thanks again,
Rebecca

Hi again, Rebecca!
You are actually mapped correctly to do this on our end. It appears as if all you have to do now is adjust the Shop link URL at http://middleofnowhere.cc/ . You currently have it linked to http://www.middleofnowhere.bigartel.com and you should change it to http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc/ .
Let me know how that works for you. Many thanks!

Thank you – it’s just when I click on the link http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc/ it still changes the link in my web address to just middleofnowhere.cc and links to my front page, which is why my shop is still pointing to the bigcartel link at the moment. Does the http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc/ link go to my bigcartel shop when you visit that address?
Thanks again

Hi! When I click http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc/ , I see http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc in the address bar and this page on my screen:
I think this is what you’re hoping will happen?
If you’re seeing something different, clear your browser’s cookies and cache and then refresh http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc/ . Here’s a guide to step your through the cache-clearing process:
Also, take a look at http://shop.middleofnowhere.cc/ in another browser, such as Chrome, and let me know how that goes for you.
Thanks!
