CNAME records not working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I created 2 CNAME records over my main and own blog domain (oraclebitechnology.com) three days ago:

    es.oraclebitechnology.com –>
    points to oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com
    spain.oraclebitechnology.com –>
    points to oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com

    where oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com is the same blog than oraclebitechnology.com but it’s in other language (spanish).

    Right now, this redirection is not working, any idea?

    Help for a newbie in WordPress.com!

    Adrian.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Somebody with DNS knowledge On WordPress servers?

  • Hi there,

    It doesn’t appear that you have purchased mapping upgrades for either subdomain yet.

    From https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/ :

    On WordPress.com, you can use a subdomain of a domain that you already own. For instance, if you already have a website (yourgroovydomain.com) and you have a WordPress.com blog at, say, example.wordpress.com, you can put your blog in a subdomain of your main website, such as blog.yourgroovydomain.com. Mapping a subdomain with the Domain Mapping Upgrade costs $13.00 per subdomain, per blog, per year. If you don’t yet have a domain registered, you can register one directly through WordPress.com.

    For more information on setting up a subdomain, please visit our support page:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/

    Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

    Hi Darnell,

    Thanks for answering. I supossed that when I bought the domain, I would able to manage my DNS zone. Then, How can I buy that mapping? I dont see any option to buy it? Or must i buy another domain like ‘es.oraclebitechnology.com’? So, the cost is not 13$ but 18$.

  • Hey Adrian,

    I see that you were able to purchase es.oraclebitechnology.com successfully. Great! Is it a different site that you are pointing the subdomain to. As you mentioned, it is currently directed to the same site as the main domain, oraclebitechnology.com.

    Remember:

    A subdomain is a second website part of larger domain that can have its own content.

    Let me know, thanks!

    Hi Darnell,

    Just bought subdomain mapping (es.oraclebitechnology.com). My redirection thorugh oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com is done in primary domain (oraclebitechnology.com), is it correct?

    Thanks.
    Adrian

  • Hey there,

    You are wanting to redirect es.oraclebitechnology.com to a Spanish version of the blog, correct? Is that a different site than oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com?

    Hi,

    My idea is to have 2 versions of my blog:

    http://www.oraclebitechnology.com -> English version
    es.oraclebitechnology.com -> Spanish version

    As I saw that oraclebitechnology.com and oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com were different blogs and I can manage them in an independent way, I thought about creating 2 versions.

    oraclebitechnology.com => mapped to main blog or oraclebitechnologycomblog.wordpress.com
    es.oraclebitechnology.com => mapped to oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com

    Is it correct?

    Adrian

  • Hey there,

    Found the issue. When you purchased mapping for es.oraclebitechnology.com, you accidentally mapped it to oraclebitechnologycomblog.wordpress.com instead of oraclebitechnologycom.wordpress.com. I just transferred the mapping over to the proper blog and everything seems good to go.

    Check both sites and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
