CNAME – transfer WordPress domain to Squarespace

  How do I find the CNAME? I need to transfer my Shhbysadie.com domain to my new Squarespace website. Please help!! :)

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there!

  The easiest way to map your domain to your Squarespace blog is through setting custom A records as described here:

  Point a Domain to an External IP Address

  Hello Jeremey
  Thanks for your reply – I had a look at that and am rather confused. Do I need to change the CNAME?
  I also tried to redirect the A records to ext.squarespace.com as mentioned on the Squarespace site and it won’t accept this in the field.
  And how do I transfer my Gmail too? THANKS!

  Hey Sadie!

  Rather than use a CNAME record, you can just add an A record to point your domain to Squarespace. You won’t need to add a CNAME record in this case. The easiest way to do this would be to follow the instructions here:

  Point a Domain to an External IP Address

  In the A record, enter the following IP address (per this document):

  198.185.159.135

  That should do the trick! It may take 24 hours for the changes to fully take place.

  Regarding your email address, you will need to move those records over to Squarespace as your domain is now pointed there. It looks like you can do that following the instructions here:

  You can find your current email settings by navigating to Dashboard -> Store -> My Domains -> Edit Domain -> Edit DNS. You’ll want to copy all of the TXT and MX records. Does that make sense?

  Hi Jeremy, I added the A record ass suggested and waited 72 hours but the URL is still not directing to the new site. Any ideas why?

  And are you able to tell me what IP address I direct to the A record to so that my WordPress site shows up again?

  Hi!

  It looks like your A record is set correctly. Have you followed the rest of the steps to link your domain with your Squarespace site here?

  http://help.squarespace.com/guides/mapping-a-domain-general-instructions-link-your-domain

  Let me know if that works! If you would like to change your A record to point back to your WordPress.com site, you will just need to click the trash can beside the current record as shown here:

  

  That will reload the default WordPress.com A record.
