Cock up through categories

  Decided to file my posts more effectively tonight by creating new categories and reassigning them to posts. This seems to have created ‘new’ posts published today rather than over the past 3/4 months. As well as really irritate anyone who subscribes to the blog by email, I’ve now lost the original posting dates which I need. Is there a way to reverse this with as little pain as possible? :(

  I see two posts published since April 10, 2015. Two in the past couple of days in fact. It’s not clear how adding categories would have, or could have, resulted in generation of unwanted posts, or altered post dates.
