Code appearing when blog viewed in IE (Internet Explorer0
-
I found this question, but not an answer in the archives…
When viewing my blog in IE, there is some code which is visible at the top or in the middle of each post. When viewing the blog in firefox or chrome, it isn’t there and all appears fine. Is there anything I can do about this? My blog is at http://www.connectionnintersection.wordpress.com.
Thanks!

oops, would have helped if I had spelled it correctly. Sorry about that…http://www.connectionintersection.wordpress.com

You’re pasting from MS Word, which will cause you nothing but pain and suffering. MS Word does not speak “web” and brings in a bunch of code that causes all kinds of issues. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/why-not-to-use-word/
For now, you are going to have to open each post that you have pasted from MS Word, and then click on the “remove formatting” button in the toolbar. Then, do any formatting you need to with the wordpress editor.
On the extended tool bar, there is a “paste from Word” button that will strip out all the garbage MS Word puts into documents. Use that when you paste from Word.

Guilty as charged. I’m sure this is a novice mistake and one I won’t repeat, although it is much easier for me to write when I can see more of what I’ve written as opposed to the small field in wordpress.
I opened the post and clicked on the button to remove formatting, saved it again, went back to IE to view it – the code is still there. When I removed the formatting, the bold and underlines went away, which I expected. Why is it still appearing in IE?
Thanks, TSP!

Force refresh the page. IE is lazy and is most likely using the files from your browser cache.
If it doesn’t go away, then you are probably going to have to redo the posts, either that or open each on in HTML view and manually remove all the messed up code.
You can still use Word, just use the paste from word feature in the editor. Do note though that it isn’t entirely foolproof and once in a while leaves something in there.

@ irenekoehler,
Here is a offline editor if your use to MS word then you will have no problem
understanding the interface…Link » Windows Live Writer

I know it was refreshed because the formatting did go away, but the code was hanging on.
I kept at it and I think, with your help, I’m getting the hang of this. I copied the text from the blog post and put it into notepad, then copied it from notepad and re-entered it in the text field. Clicked save and the code was gone. I reformatted the little things in the wordpress editor and it looks great. Does it make sense that this worked or am I missing something?
Now, to put the other posts through the same exercise.
Thanks so much!!

That makes sense that it worked.
One thing, once you copy everything out and into notepad, click on the html tab in the WP editor and make sure that you have deleted everything from the editor. If anything shows up in the HTML tab, then delete it as well before pasting the stuff back in.

Nope. You’re not missing a thing. And as Teck says, you’ll probably find WLW pretty intuitive. When I used Windows, I preferred BlogDesk as an offline editor.
