Code for center image with right aligned caption
-
I’m not here to quarrel, but only to help. I don’t consider myself infallible and I always appreciate suggestions and corrections. That code works in my test blog and I truly can’t see the mistake, but I’d be happy if you could show it to me – it’s never too late to learn.
If you refer to the fact that it does not validate because of the cellspacing and cellpadding attributes, I know they are not part of the xhtml 1.0 strict standard, but they take care of displaying the table properly also in older browsers.

Isadora: This “forgot more than I know” thing may sound strange to us but I happen to know that it is meant as huge compliment.
-
That’s right; it’s an idiomatic English expression that means we know so little relative to you that our knowledge might as well be meaningless. Ella does NOT mean there is an error.
-
ellaella, I guess I have to apologize and that I have to work a bit harder at my language skills. :-(
deltafoxtrot, thanks, I got it, now…
raincoaster, thanks to you, too, I suppose this is one of those idiomatic expressions I will never forget anymore…
-
Thanks, rain and deltafoxtrot.
Isadora – you are so fluent it never entered my mind that you might not know that idiom. It was indeed high praise.

Thanks to all for brokering your differences in a thoughtful, humorous and meaningful way. I, too, was not familiar with that expression, but like it for its nuance. I appreciate all of you for taking your time to help out a struggling blogger who knows next to nothing about code, but I’m trying to learn.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to add this little discovery to the mix in my quest for perfection in finding a code for center image with right aligned caption. You can see the one time the goal was accomplished.

The above used this code …
<div class=”caption”>
<div><img src=”http://farm1.static.flickr.com/31/102463794_6db9a83ef9.jpg?v=0″ height=”500″ width=”500″ />
Grand Central [Flickr]</div>
</div>… but when I tried it with a different image, I could never duplicate. Now I know why. The grand central station at night was the perfect image size for the chaotic soul template 500 x 500. The other night, I tried an image that was smaller and got a different result – image was not centered, but caption WAS right aligned. When I stretched the image to 500 x 500 it duplicated exactly what I was looking for. What does this tell me? Does it even help me? Do I have to distort all images to get perfect center alignment?
-
Ooops. Sorry for repeating myself. I see I already posted this code (grand central) image some time back.
-
I suggest you go with the method, I came up with first. It basically creates a box (if you fill in the right values) that is as wide as the contained image and aligns the caption exactly with the right side.
