Code to make phone number clickable
-
What options does WordPress.com offer to make phone numbers clickable? I tried several options, but the HTML code was stripped out.
And how can I enter a non-breaking hyphen (‑)?
I tried to enter the HTML code for a non-breaking hyphen to display a phone number, but the HTML code was stripped out when I saved.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello Debbie! (JenT here from the WPSF livestream/twitter)
If you are looking to actually make that number into a Skype-like, direct dial from your browser number, I don’t believe you’ll be able to do so here on WordPress.com because, as you say, the code gets stripped out. Here’s more about WPcom’s code restrictions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the reply, and good to hear from you!
Jennifer, you’re right. Eerything I’ve tried with code gets stripped out. Wish the phone numbers were clickable.
What’s the best way to find out if clickable phone number is is on the roadmap for the future?

@daschultemn Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, WordPress.com strips of the code to make the phone number clickable.
My goal is to have the number open the phone app or Skype, something easily done with code on a self-hosted site. But WordPress.com code restrictions don’t allow it.

@daschultemn – When I created an HTML link as you described above, all I got when clicking it was a 404 error. Perhaps I’m missing something.
Can you say a little about the environment this took place in? When you called home, did you click the link in a web browser or on your phone/mobile?

I created it on a WordPress.com page draft , clicked Preview and tapped the number on my iPhone.
I do know that mobile devices automagically work with numbers they encounter, so it very well could balk on my MacBook. I’ll try it later this afternoon.
