codes

Why do codes not work on Wordpreess for various music playlists and video collections? Is tehre something different about wordpress that makes codes not work. I see other cool things on eblogger, myspace, etc. and the codes wont translate to wordpress. I have a blog here as well as a volunteer group that I maintain. It’s so frustrating that we canot have music on our page and that Youtube is the ONLY video source we can download. Can you8 help in these areas?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please provide a link to your wordpress.com blog when posting in the forums or link it to your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums.
If you are hosted here, please spend some time in the support area as it is not true that we cannot have music on or blogs or that YouTube is the only video source.

OK, here is my blog and the volunteer blog that I help maintain…….
http://www.thelifeoflauren.wordpress.com
http://www.pwocbenningconnection.wordpress.comI have tried several different music widgets from different place and none works. I would like for music to play when i open my blog as well as the volunteer page. When I looked into the FAQs for music, it says to “1) Upload an mp3 file somewhere on the internet and link to it like this [audio ] with the address inside like this” as one of the options. How do you upload music to “somewhere” on the internet? I am so confused at how to do this. I would like to link videos that we have created and youtube.com is the only code that will transfer. Vimeo.com, Godtube.com and others will not show up.
Thanks so much for your attention to this issue.

Forum searches are truly a blogger’s friend :)
There are a number of sites that will host your music for you if you don’t want to purchase the space upgrade here at wordpress.com. Among those mentioned in the searches is fileden and box.net This post https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/adding-music-to-my-blog-1?replies=17#post-250234 gives the steps for getting the music on your blog.
As for the video files – the FAQ is here http://support.wordpress.com/videos/ and the instructions for using 12 different video sites are included. I’ve used Vimeo myself without any problems. (You can also purchase the space upgrade.)
Hope that helps.

Is there a way to load a player that will play automatically when ppl come to my blog page? Is there a way to load it in the sidebar like sonific songspot
(I think this is the name) used to do? -
Sonific no longer exists, and one thing to think about is that many people do not like music that automatically plays with no way to shut it off, especially if they are on dialup or a slower DSL connection as it will almost freeze their system as it tries to stream the audio. Autoplay music on a blog or website is one of the easiest ways to get me to hit the back button and go somewhere else. Autoplay music also irritates those who are surfing at work because all of a sudden there is this music coming from their computer and everyone around them knows they are not working, but surfing the web.
-
All music players require either javascript or flash, and neither of those is allowed here, so you are pretty much stuck with the wordpress audio player, which does not have an autoplay capability.
-
Ok, I understand the dilemna to not allow the auto music play. I went to boxnet and got a link for a song and added [audio] to it. I got the player on the front but it buffers constantly with no song.
[audio http://www.box.net/shared/2mzmqt3z6n%5D is the code I put in. What is wrong with that code? Again my blog is http://www.thelifeoflauren.wordpress.com -
When I to http://www.box.net/shared/2mzmqt3z6n it says, “This shared file or folder has been removed. If you feel this is by mistake, please email either the owner of this shared file/folder or email (email visible only to moderators and staff) for Box.net Technical Support.”
Can you give us the URL of the web page where you got the music from?
-
I should just like to point out to everyone who is trying to put automatically playing music on their blog that there is nothing which makes me click the back button quicker. I’m usually listening to something already when I’m surfing the net, and there’s nothing more irritating than having a sudden burst of totally unnecessary music interfering with the radio programme I wanted to hear. And if I’m not already listening to something it’s because I don’t want to.
Just a thought. Blogs are for readers. Don’t do things that will irritate them.

“rosclarke” thanks but you are repeating info on the music forums threads now.
“thesacredpath”, I’m not sure what you mean by a url for the webpage. The site I uploaded the music file to is box.net which was recommended by “vivianpage” in an earlier response. Then, i followed the directions on the FAQ for MUSIC that said
Adding Audio Files to Your BlogThere are 3 ways to do this:
1) Upload an mp3 file somewhere on the internet and link to it like this [audio ] with the address inside like this:
[audio http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/mattmullenweg-interview.mp3%5D
which will produce the following player:
(The recording is 5 minutes from Tom Raftery’s interview with Matt and Donncha. Check out his Podleaders site for the full interview!)
The file on Box.net to link is this http://www.box.net/shared/2mzmqt3z6n. I don’t see a way on the site to render it to .mp3 if that is the problem. Please let me know if there is a way if you think that is the problem.
-
Please forgive me for wanting an answer for the music issue. I will be leaving my position soon with the volunteer organization and need to pass it on to the next maintenance person as well as keep it “free” as possible because it is a volunteer organization.
-
Ok, I finally got to it at box.net, and that file is a wma file, not an mp3 ( 07 Magnificent Defeat.wma ) and it needs to be an MP3 file to work.
Under “important notes” in http://support.wordpress.com/audio/ It says, “Only mp3 audio files can be played on WordPress audio player.” You will have to convert the file from .wma to .mp3 in order for it to work.
-
-
Also, please be aware that you may need to break the link in order for the file to play.
-
box.net will only allow direct file links if you have a paid account.
However, you can use the box.net widget in your blog’s sidebar to play audio files uploaded to the widget at box.net http://support.wordpress.com/widgets/boxnet-widget/ For mp3 files, box.net also has an option to allow downloads or not.
