coding appears when emailing blog subscribers
-
For some odd reason, the emailed blog post is being received full of coding that should not be there. How do I eliminate it? Uncheck the visual editor box? Will that help? The blog is going out through Feedburner and I have already changed that to plain text, but still get the unwanted code text……help, please! thanks!
-
Can you give us an example? Perhaps, point us to a post that seems to be generating the extra code?
-
Thanks for responding – here is the “code” that appears in the text area of emails. I did uncheck the visual editor box and sent out a post to see if that would fix it…..it did not…….i am stumped…….would it help if I used my own text editor here and then copied and pasted it to WordPress post? thanks so much! peggie

It’s difficult for any of us to help if we cannot take a look at the posts that caused the issue.
Perhaps a link to one of the actual posts that had the problem?
-
Sure – http://peggiesplace.wordpress.com – it looks just fine there. I really appreciate your help on this nutty problem!
-
Well, I subscribe to my own list and could send you a copy of the email I got this morning with the “junk” attached to the text area of the message. Would that help?
-
If what you have posted above was what was in the email, then that should be enough.
I ran your blog through the W3C validator, and it is reporting 265 errors on the main page, but after quick look through your page source code, I find it very hard to believe there are that many errors. I haven’t yet gone through the source code for your sidebar. Perhaps I’ll find something in there that could be causing the problem.
Looking at your RSS feed (which is where feedburner gets the stuff to put into your email updates) I don’t see anything there either.
The stuff you posted above, which post was that associated with?

Curious note: I’ve got a friend who is subscribed to my blog via email and she is getting it just fine. THEN, I have another friend who, like me, is receiving HER copy with all the excess coding! Maybe we need to send the problem to “Murder, She Wrote” and Jessica Fletcher can figure it out – chuckle! I’m stumped; of course, it doesn’t take much to stump me – I am NOT hi-tech, as my sons will verify…….thanks again for helping!
-
What email program are you using, and what is your friend that has the same problem using?
-
I was just going to tell you – I am using EUDORA PRO…….my friend with the just-fine-email ALSO uses EUDORA PRO…….am “I” going nuts??? grin…..
-
Do you have your email program set so that it receives “HTML” emails, or plain text? I’m not familiar with Eudora Pro so I’m not sure where to tell you to look. If it is set to convert everything to plain text instead of honoring and displaying HTML, then that might be the problem.
-
That’s an idea……I’m really not worried about “me,” per se, although I admit to being a perfectionist. I was concerned that my subscribers not get “ugly” mail! In Eudora, I can send it out as PLAIN text but I see no place to set it for RECEIVING text……
I don’t want to take any more of your valuable time…..but I will try sending it to another one of my email programs to see how it comes in that way.
Thank you again VERY much!

Peggie, let us know how it works with the other email program. Since your friend is using the same program and getting them fine, it sort of points to a setting in your preferences or something.

drum roll….I MAY have found the problem……In my settings/writing file I found an unchecked box here:
“WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” – I went ahead and checked it.
I’ll see how it works when I send out a new post tomorrow – I don’t want to flood my subscribers with any more posts today.I’ll let you know!
-
Update: I subscribed to my email post via gmail.com and unlike Eudora, the post came fine, without the strange coding in the text area……that same post came in today at Eudora, but unlike gmail, i’m dealing with the unwanted coding again.
I thought for sure that my latest “find” would have corrected any errors, but it did not. I am thinking the problem is within the Eudora settings somewhere and will have to search through it again.
Thanks anyway.

pbohanon – that setting has nothing to do with how a file is interpreted in a reader. It corrects formatting problems on the blog itself.
You have correctly identified the problem: it is a setting in Eudora (a name, BTW, I haven’t heard for years!)
