Coding change on login boxes?

  • Unknown's avatar

When I am trying to log into my account, all of a sudden the login isn’t recognizing my autofill. The browser seems to think that the password box is for the email address. I have tried deleting the autofill and retyping to save, but it still goes back to the error the next time I go to log in. I have also tried resaving the bookmark, and that didn’t work either. This is not happening on any other site. And it happens with more than one browser. Has there been a coding change in the login page when it was redesigned? It looks a bit different than it used to.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi again,

Thank you for the prompt reply. Sometimes there are login problems because of browser issues. Can you try to clear your browsers cache and cookies using these instructions:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Try to re-login again. If you still face issues you can try and reset the password using these guidelines here:

Let me know how it goes, would be happy to assist you further.
    Thanks!

I tried to tell you that it is doing the same with different browsers, and I have done all I can with my browser. The cache was cleared. As I said in my initial post, the autofill deleted and reset, the bookmark was deleted and reset. It isn’t my browser. It started after the login page changed its look. Somehow the boxes aren’t coded for the email to be email. The password box autofills with my email address, even after deleting and changing and trying to resave.

It is also happening on two different computers.

    Hi again,

Thank you for the details further. Please let me know which browsers and devices did you try to log in?

Also, would be great if you can share a screenshot of your login page, where you notice the details you send above. Here are the instructions to help you with creating a screenshot:

Thank you for your patience, looking forward to getting the details and assist you further.
    Thanks!

I would prefer not to do that as I have more than one account and it would show all the logins. It is pretty simple to explain, the login emails are trying to autofill in the password box.

  • Hi there,

We completely replaced the login screen, so both the URL of the login page as well as the underlying code is different than it was before. If you’re saving passwords in your browser it’s very possible your browser is now confused as to which text needs to go in which field.

Can you please try deleting your saved passwords, then log in manually, re-saving them in the process?

That said, using your browser to save passwords is a very poor security practice. Browsers aren’t designed to safely store passwords, and someone who knew what they were doing would need seconds to discover and export all your passwords should they ever gain access to your browser. Please rather consider using a password manager. The WordPress.com login page works with most popular password managers.

As I said in my initial post, I did that already. I’ll look into a password manager. Thank you for your answer. Consider the matter closed.
