Coding Error
-
Hi there,
I have been working on WordPress through a hosted platform HostGator. My site was coming along nicely. I have been using the customised theme Tesseract and following the steps from this video tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd0grLQ4voU).
I was first having trouble with RSS feeds, specifically not being able to scrape the featured images from external articles. I started copying and pasting code to within the ‘functions.php’ file. Since the new code wasn’t working, I deleted it. Very simple procedure.
This is where the real problem occurred.
The code is back to normal, however, I am stuck on that page and cannot move. Any button, link, click I do I get this message on a blank screen in the top left hand corner:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home2/rupertbrenn/public_html/wp-content/themes/TESSERACT/functions.php on line 1096
I have looked through the code and don’t have a ‘line 1096’ nor the sign ‘<‘. It doesn’t allow me change anything, nor undo anything, or visit the live site. Anything I press I get the same message as above.
I have already paid for hosting the site, but this unexpected occurrence means if I can’t fix it I will have to pay for hosting a completely different site.
Help would be much appreciated.
Best,
Rupert

I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. However, you have a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, which we really can’t help with.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/ Your webhost’s support team is another good resource.

Hi Rupert – Since you have a self hosted WordPress site you will need to seek out help at http://wordpress.org/support/
All WordPress.com sites are also hosted here. This is very different from what happens at WordPress.org. You can read about the differences in WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
