Color changes

I am uploading images to my blog, and every so often, the colors are dramatically muted or almost reverted to before I did any post production work on them.
I am editing in lightroom, then PS5, files are rgb color, and saved as high quality .jpg. When WP gets through crunching, the image is different than what I see in the still open PS5, or even previews of the jpf through windows.
A big offender is the July 30th post, which i include a link the the file also stored on facebook. The facebook site shows correct colors.
I tried to upload a pic today and get the same issues. I had adjust the exposures/tones on a brick wall, but it comes out very muted after the -crunching-
The only help i could find was to make sure the files were in rgb color.
    Any help?
    thanks.

What you need to do is to size a copy of the image to the exact maximum width for the theme you are using before uploading it. If you want that image linked to a larger version, then you have to also upload that larger version and then link the smaller version in the post to the larger version.

If you just upload the larger version, then wordpress creates additional sizes of the image (thumbnail, medium, full-sized which is max width for your theme) to display in your posts and pages.

Also if you are inserting the images from other sources such as flickr, etc., then wordpress has no control over those and if they are larger than will fit into the post area, the resizing is done by the browser which will definitely reduce quality.

See this post and also see this one.

I still have no luck with this. I redid an image, will post to Aug 8 date, with a link to FB, same image, different look.
Saved this time as a png, reduced size to 800*600 16bit RGB.
I am not linking the pic through Facebook, I just added a link to the same pic on another site to show the true picture.
These are the exact same png files, uploaded within minutes.

    Is this helpful?

Thanks for the reply. I had no idea. So everyone who uses photoshop, converts to srgb before uploading? Is there a reason that in my last example, Facebook displays the same as photoshop? as well as my actual website?

    thanks

Any time that you upload an image that is larger than what will fit width wise into the post or page area, wordpress makes a copy of that image at the smaller size. Each time you reduce the size of an image and then resave it, it loses quality. The maximum width for your theme is 640px, that means the 800px wide image that you uploaded has to be reduced in size by 20%. WordPress’ resizing stuff is NOT photoshop and it will never produce a reduced image anywhere close to what photoshop will. On Facebook I they have only reduced the image to about 720px wide. Also, the Facebook system is different.

If you don’t want wordpress messing with your images, prepare two of them, one at whatever large size you want, and then one at 640px wide. Upload both images, insert the 640px wide image into your post or page and then link that image to the larger sized image. That way wordpress does not have to create a 640px wide image off of your larger image.

If you care about image quality, never let any other software automatically resize or resample or mess with your images. Nothing on the web can do as good of job as photoshop, or even the free GIMP photo editing program.

Thanks for all the useful info. I am trying to put it to good use. Still having issues. I croppped images down in PS5, to exact size. For example, I put up a new header, sized to 940*198(exact size they say i need) in PS5, then uploaded. 16bit RGB png. No resizing was needed. As i view it right now, jumping between PS5 and the browser, the color is not the same. It loses some lightening and tones that were added before the save. I also did a post just now, resized image in PS to 640 * 480 png, image still has color loss.
As you can see by the link the FB, the colors are very different.

Also, on the canoe pic a few posts back. I uploaded a new one, 640 wide, 16bit png. Exact same deal, the canoe is not red as it is in the facebook pic, or as in the PS5 that i am looking at.

does WP need the file to also be under a size limit to prevent crunching?

To try to minimize any resizing at all, I stuck an additional photo in the canoe post, a tiny 300*300 png file. Still has the color changed.
