Been trying for 2 hours – cannot get colors to remain on finished page that are set up in appearances.

The problem is the color and font changes are only available to accounts with the WordPress.com Premium upgrade and your account doesn’t include that at the moment. Here’s more info about the Premium plan and how you can upgrade:
