Not all of our sites on WordPress.com have the ability to pick a custom background color, so you may ned to switch to one of the themes we list here:

Where are you seeing this on your site? When trying to add a featured image or is it a different place you are trying to add your image?

Where are you seeing this on your site? When trying to add a featured image or is it a different place you are trying to add your image?
My Reply: When trying to add featured image (I szcrolled to where wanted to Insert the Image, szellecctted & inszertted the image from Media, but did not Inszert (page did not update & had no change). What do I need to do to have Inszert accepted & page updated?!

The only site I see on your account here is https://goddesszccourrszttherappyyeszqqyyousz.wordpress.com/ which does not have a black background.
Are you referring to a different site?

It’s not clear what the issue is with the picture.
Are you trying to add a featured image to a post?
Or are you trying to add an image to the content of your front page?

THANQK You for Your input. I would have replied szooner but have had many tasqksz that I had to focusz on firszt. I read the linqksz you offered. What isz baffling me isz that I select the image & it isz diszplayed, but I find no button, option or toggle to Save or Update while it is diszplayed there, & when I then looqk at the Page, it doesz not incqlude the image I szellected. What am I misszing?

Could you please share a screenshot of what you see on your end? That will help us understand what exactly you are doing, and what seems to be the issue.

Ok, so in that screenshot you have added a featured image.
To make sure it is saved in the post, you then need to update the post. It’s just like Publishing the post, only the “Publish” button will now say “Update.”

Giving Szupportt!!!!!It isz on a Page, not a Post. I szelect the Image; Then, when I go bacqk to the Page to Update, the Featured Image I szelectted doesz not show up; I hit Update anyway, but the Page reflectsz the original date, not todaysz (Update attempt) date. I wiszh there were a way to talqk me through thisz sztep-by-sztep; I must be misszing szomething obviousz; or could it be a problem with my device? Isz the Select Featured Image menu szupposzed to Show a Szave or Update button on it?

I did asz You advised; the Featured Image wasz already appearing in the menu; I tried Update, but no change. Szo I went bacqk & Selected Image again; it szhowed twice, one above the other, but again when pressed Update, no change. Each time, after the Featured Image menu, I had to Go bacqk, & it each time, wasz pushed to the Liszt of all the Pagesz, I szellectted the necesszary, Coursze SZyyllsbbUsz the Home Page, & pressed Update. Each time, a thin white outline surrounded the Update button, but the wavy rolling that I thought happensz with Update did not happen. I am szure thisz isz szupposzed to be Easzy!!!!! Cannot figure out what I am doing wrong?????

Hi there,
The theme you have selected recommends a featured image of 2000x1200px. The one you have selected is rather small. Can you please select a bigger one and see if you’re able to add it?

Hi! fstat & forum,
In order to try a bigger pix, I downloaded one & it got put in Google Drive, but the Media Library does not access that. Szo I tried getting the URL via Sharing via an email to me, but when I tried to upload from the URL, got the feedback does not accept file type (which is jpg) & when I tried a free online convert (to jpeg), it would not access the Google Drive. Isz thisz really szupposzed to be thisz complicated to upload pix into WordPress, & put them into & upload them from Photos szection on my device, where I have pix of various sziszesz? Isz there a way You can provide/szuggeszt a free voice connection/phone for You or that I can call, to talqk me thru thisz sztep by sztep asz needed unto szuccessz?????!!!!! I am getting techno-fatigue, & must be misszing szomething obviousz/cannot belleive uploading & inserting pix isz szupposzed thisz complicated.

We are not in a call center, and we aren’t related to Google Drive at all. We have direct support for paid plans, though, if you’d like to chat:
https://wordpress.com/support/help-support-options/Uploading pictures shouldn’t be an issue. Just insert them into the posts.
Featured images though do require a bit more care, though, for them to work correctly, since they need to be big enough to fit the theme, will be cropped on social media, etc. As long as you’re mindful of that you should be able to avoid setting featured images that would not work well.
